I know this is probably a really stupid question:rolleyes:, but I am not very clued up on mobile phones.
I have decided now to get both the kids a contract phone, they spend all their pocket money on credit so I'm hoping it will save some money.
I have never looked at 3 before, but just noticed an advert that says you can talk and txt on this messenger thing for free.
How does that work? does the other person have to be on 3, and do kids use this to chat?

The kids both mainly txt, so this sounds ideal, what do you think?

It's the new name for MSN messenger, which allows people to do text chats (and now video) with other users over the internet.

The other person would have to be using Windows Live Messenger at the same time as well, which they can use on a PC or mobile.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

My kids love the 3 network because of this, they use it all the time !, to be honest i've just managed to get them on the internet texter plans for £10 a month, includes unlimited 3 to 3 calls, unlimited texts, unlimited internet and 75 voice calling minutes (this enough because all the family are on 3 and can call each other for free), and they keep in touch with friends via MSN, text and facebook, all on their 3 phone, no other network comes close to this for them.

The £10 is probably a retention deal, new customers probably pay £15

Note unlimited internet usually is capped at 500meg a month or 1 gig or similar.

PS - If you decide to go with Three, its always a good idea to use quidco plus get a £20 accessories voucher if you go to their site and talk to their web robot (they usually offer a voucher at end of conversation).
  • Yep three have a FUP of 1GB, but all they do is send you a text saying you may get cut off if you use it again before your bill date, i use 2 - 2 1/2 gb a month and they havent cut me off.
if they arent going to use the phone for internet access just go for the texter plan thats £10, http://threestore.three.co.uk/Texter.aspx its the same as the internet texter but without the web add on, which you can add for £5 whenever you want, and it isnt tied to the length of the contract.
if you dont want tn get them contracts the 3 PAYG also gives you free msn, skype and ebay

All my 3 girls have contract phones, at the end of the day its much better value for money, I trust the fact that I have brought my girls up to behave responsibly, they've never ever gone over their alloted allowances.

Thanks for the replies, I thought it looked to good to be true! when I checked my postcode it said good coverage outside, but not inside, how accurate is this? Can you use the phone at all inside?

3 (which the question is about) allow you to set a credit limit of £0 ie you can't use anything if it isn't inclusive.
