Freeview and Teletext

I've just bought a new TV with built in Freeview (never had Freeview before so not sure of how it all works). The blurb on the manufacturer's website indicates the TV supports Teletext but when I press the Text button nothing happens. Any ideas or suggestions?

You would probably need to be watching Analogue TV to get teletext. On digital TV, they have a more advanced text service, normally accessed by pressing the red button or text button - but it's not available on all channels.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. Can you tell me a digital channel it's on so I can try one?
My TV also has an analogue tuner. Do you know if I'd be easily able to switch between the two?0 -
BBC1 has text (and normally says 'press red' in the top corner).
To switch to analogue, there's may be a button saying ATV/DTV. Alternatively, press the source button (the one to switch from TV to Scart/HDMI/etc) until you get analogue TV.
Some TVs do it slightly differently and if you go to BBC1 on digital then press the P- button (to change channel down), it will take you to analogueSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. OK, sorted for switching between analogue and digital and Teletext is there on analogue. Still no text on digital.
Also the time is European time (UK plus 1 hour) and not changeable on the digital channels. Is this normal? The model is made for the European market rather than UK I think.0 -
It's very odd that you don't get text on the digital channels....you did select UK on the first time installation?Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Sounds like you may have purchased a " grey import ", if your TV doesn't have the digital tick it is not fully Freeview compatible.0 -

No - as it's a European model I only had the choice of France, Italy or Slovenia. I've tried all three but no difference.Sounds like you may have purchased a " grey import ", if your TV doesn't have the digital tick it is not fully Freeview compatible.
Not exactly "grey" as I knew where it came from, but I know what you mean. It is identified as 1080P although the tick is not showing on the specification on the web site as I don't suppose it means anything outside the UK. I've got the Freeview channels. Is there anything else I can check to see if I'm missing any other features, or any ideas if this can be changed. I've emailed the manufacturer as well but they're closed until tomorrow.0 -
1080P has nothing to do with the Freeview side of things.
I brought a Spanish " Freeview " type receiver home to the UK with me to see if it would work here, it did, but like your TV it didn't work with Freeview Text.
So I assume that your TV was possibly originally destined for mainland Europe by the sound of things, which would make it a " grey import " if that was the case.0 -
Sorry, not au fait with all the terminology. I did similar to you by taking a UK Freeview box out to Italy and it works OK but maybe some functions missing that I don't know about. Just have to wait and see if the manufacturer suggests anything.
I've noticed a menu selection under "Factory Mode" titled "Set ID". Any idea what this does?0 -

I can only think that it is a way of selecting your own security code, usually factory set to 0000 or similar, best left alone if you are not sure.;)
I am almost certain that your TV is a " grey import " ie, sold in a country that was not it's intended original market.
Let us know what the makers say.
Good luck.0
