I think a few years ago 3 did have a reputation for bad signal, I got a Samsung Galaxy S2 on 3 on their One Plan contract a few months back. I live in Milton Keynes and get excellent signal all over, the One Plan allows tethering and i have had upto 10Meg download, in fact it has been so fast and reliable i have cancelled my land line and broadband (landline was only for broadband) and take advantage of the All you can eat data on the contract. 3 have been upgrading their network recently to HSPA+ the samsung Galaxy S2 can make use of this faster (in theory 21Meg but limited to 16Meg) speed.

All in all in my opinion 3+Samsung Galaxy S2 = awesome.

just joined three having been a cust many moons ago with bad vibes i wasnt sure. but alas got a rolling contract for 15 a month and have to admit it is very very fast my mates are jealous cos i can watch footie iplayer etc whenever i want without worring about using up data. love three one plan that i got. an amazing service for my area (exeter).
the staff were very well educated on products etc in store and were very helpful solving a few issues from my bank when trying to set up the rolling sim card. best of all for 15 pound if and i doubt it but if another network could match their deal i have the option to cancel any time
The word about the scammers is spreading like marmite here in the westcountry.
We workers all love it and the ppc hate it :rotfl:
  • Just to add my 2 pence worth, 3 coverage does vary depending on your location. Your best bet is to check each networks coverage checker before you buy your contract (they all have one for mobile broadband coverage too).
  • I know this thread was made ages ago, but I am so in love with 3 mobile at the moment that I feel obliged to even reply to such an out of date thread lol. I think three mobile is absolutely fantastic -before I went to 3 mobile, I was told by everyone to check what kind of coverage I had in my area. So I checked three network coverage to check signal strength where i live and it showed that I had bad coverage - I took the risk (because I was getting a really good deal) and I don't regret it. My coverage has been nothing but excellent here in Leeds and even when I went up to the highlands in scotland, the coverage wasn't too bad either. The price for the deal I got was phenomenal so I am a very very happy customer! :D
  • I was considering 3 as current O2 signal is only 2g in so many places, and so I could use their 'Feel at Home' feature and use the U.K. allowance abroad in certain countries.
I was told in a 3 shop that Norway was one of the countries included. It isn't. I was also told, once in a 3 shop and once by sales over the phone, that 3 have only switched off the Orange 2g backup in places where their own coverage is good e.g. towns and cities. Wrong also. No 2g coverage any longer- confirmed by 3 in Mumbai or wherever yesterday, Coverage map only shows 3g cover and should now be accurate. Massive areas of no coverage outside towns and away from main roads.
Went into a 3 shop to buy a PAYG sim to check. Wanted £15 with preloaded credit!
Get one in Poundland or W H Smiths for £1 or free if posted by 3 via a website link.

Use the PAYG sim and check coverage first. No top-up needed.
3 will drop signal quicker indoors than O2 and Vodafone as it works on a much higher frequency.
