Only been on 20 mins this evening and it's crashed twice.
It was a brand new install of 3.5.3 last weekend, it's been fine all week with all my usual add-ons working as they normally do.
    Move along, nothing to see.

i hve a problem with all browsers, they just won't open websites, but other programs like skype still work. When 1 browser goes the others even if not running at the time will just not load pages either. I use firefox mostly. I have the same problem with another machine but XP will shut it down, but Vista wont shut it down even in processes. A restart or sometimes a hard shutdown is required to get the browsers working.

I have avast, Zonealarm, Spybot, Vista Home pre, Firefox 3.5 all upto date. I have uninstalled Zonealarm avast spybot but problem still persists,
It does happen more oftern if I watch youtube or other sites with streaming video.

    Any ideas?

Does it ever blue screen? I had the same problem with XP a few weeks ago, where the browsers would suddenly freeze up and couldn't even shut my computer down. Occasionally it would blue screen. Turned out it was a bad installation of my antivirus of which an uninstall and reinstall solved it.

When did this start happening? Have you installed any programs since it started doing this? Is there anything in the event viewer that might tell you what program is causing it?

well all browsers do the same thing, they stop working , So if i use IE over time it just stops loading pages. If I then open another browser that wont open pages either.
I dont get Blue screens, Just either very long shutdowns or just hangs, which after a hard shutdown , windows throws up the safemode option at boot.

Firefox when it stops loading , if you close the program it appears to have gone, but trying to load it again it has an error message that only allowed 1 instance of firefox to be running at a time and so doesn't do anything. Ctril Alt Del to task manager and it wont end process.
It has happened since the day I got the laptop, I had the same issue with XP SP3 and firefox but XP could end process and firefox would work again for a while thats on a completely different laptop, brand chip sets everything.

The problem seems random, but average of 3-4 reboots a day. Which peves the hell out of me when it goes in the middle of a survey and it wont let me back in after a reboot to complete the survey.

Others have this problem I have googled it but it all ends with no solution just a dead thread. People of said of a Firefox memory leak, but it does the same with all browsers , Firefox system works fine can use the menu and options, but trying to load a page it sits with its rotating working on it symbol.

When the problem occurs it affects all browsers and anything that uses a browser embedded in like itunes store/ apps store. but the rest of itunes will work, plays music. I have looked in the admin event logs and there doesnt record an error. Mozilla never replied to my enquiry.

  • It sounds like there might be a program conflict somewhere. Have you tried looking in the event viewer to see if there are any errors?

I checked event viewer, first time its shown this set of errors all seem to fit the problem too.

Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.

there is also another error that says that an error occured when writing an event log so maybe thats why this is the first time I have seen this error
