sauce was too thick and tasted floury
When you use flour in cooking, it needs to be what they call "cooked off" or it will taste floury. Next time, be aware of that and as you're mixing the flour with the fat/butter just make sure you're heating them up long enough for the flour to do that (just a couple of minutes max).
  • Not really moneysaving, I suppose, but money-wising, if there's such a phrase - we're off on holiday in a couple of weeks, so have scoured the net to find the basics & add-ons we want at the best possible price:

Flight £500 (includes accommodation, but not where we want to be, so we won't be using it - flight only was £600!)
Overnight stay & parking £67 (just parking was £62; hotel on its own would be £65, hotel with parking normally £100 - so I'm delighted with that deal!)
Car hire on arrival £114 - not the cheapest, but the best price by £30 that I could get for a company name that I recognised and was happy to deal with!! I think car hire can be a minefield, especially where we're going, so the cheapest deal can be a false economy, I think.

So, for £680 I'm happy with what we've got - especially bearing in mind that the travel agent in town gave us the best possible deal she could to get us out there, and it came in at £630 - without any car hire, hotel or parking!!

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Afternoon everybody,

Can't believe it is Sunday afternoon already! Where does time go to these days?

Had a good night out last night, was exhausted and didn't get in till 4am but it was still good fun. Spent about £40 for dinner, drinks and taxi which wasn't too bad I don't think. Had a few yummy G&Ts too, ah I miss those! :o

Milly/Fay - loving the smilies! The washing and ironing ones are brilliant!

After my 4am antics though, doubt today is going to be all that productive, in fact the idea of Milly's sitting on backside afternoon sounds lovely. Do have a few things for the list though:
    • Update spending spreadsheet with totals from yesterday
    • Check banking
    • Meal plan for next couple of days and buy a few bits for it (only have £7 for shopping till payday on Wednesday but I reckon I can make it).
    • Breakfast and lunch from stores
    • Ironing (yes Fay, I have a permit too!)
    • Bake some scones and banana bread to use up stuff
    • Find something DFW for OH's friends who are coming over for dinner (chilli maybe?)
That's it I think - hope everyone has a good Sunday xx
LBM 17th August 2009 Debt at LBM £18,612 Proud to be dealing with my debts.
  • I am glad folks accept us gardening types to be rumpled or maybe its our weather on the islands - it doesnt matter how you start off looking you end up looking like this HSwindy.gif- I am beginning to feel a bit left out on the ironing stakes (where are you all getting your permits from for Sundays ......??)

I spoke to DD about the lack of ironing (ie did she WANT me to iron some thing for her?) - she said 'Nah.....we just aren't ironing kind of people....' - I am clearly a bad mum....hangs head in shame.

Therefore I have decided to do some 'virtual ironing' HSiron.gif

Dont shoot me - runs off and hides scared0016.gif

Hugs to all - its wet and windy outside - bleurgh......xx

  • Aaaah Fay - sorry, tis sunny and mild here, sat in a tshirt:o

Back off to the sofa where I'm taking a pair of DD's school trousers up, we bought long length yesterday but I thought much more MSE to take them up instead of buying shorter ones:D
I really need to sort out a new signature!
