The burden we can bear is very much a christian belief.
It is a platitude fed to us and by us to make the intolerable tolerable.
I dont think it is true either.
I would say I'm influenced by a Christian cultural upbringing (and while I have respect for that I am not a practicing, nor believeing...exactly..Christian) and I think the phrase is inaccurate. we can choose to bear a lot more than we think we can. Better is to choose to try and beat/overcome those burdens. Belief helps many with that.
afriend, I don't think those who believe what you said how you phrased it would argue its fair.0 -
Some people have something missing in either their genetic or emotional make-up. They lack, well I am not quite sure what they lack but they are less than they should be and possibly less than they could be. They sleepwalk through life making no real connection with it.
Who would choose to be them?
You think they sleepwalk through it, but it's not possible to know for sure.
Perhaps those seeking a hedonistic lifestyle without regard, see others as sleepwalking through it.
Obviously it's not one hundred percent black and white.
Sorry wageslave I'm probably ranting a bit.0 -

I am, by both education and temperament, more suited to this type of discussion than one about interest rates. I can make this stuff up as I go along:oYou think they sleepwalk through it, but it's not possible to know for sure.

haha, an area I used to study a lot. Hardwired, I read as nature. IMO, never underestimate either nature or nurture.
Afriend, I'm tired too, so as you're, by your admission, a bit off today, I'll not try and expand on that point right now, but perhaps come back to it when I'm feeling more confident in my use of words.

Don't be silly, post away. It shows more dimensions to a character.
I have never felt at ease with one-dimensional folk. Talking frankly goes more than one way.

The internet is a strange auld place, by it's very nature it reduces us all to one dimension. We become caricatures of ourselves.
When I first discovered the net, I was thrilled. Here, I thought, is something that will break down barriers amongst people. Here is something that will allow us to communicate without the stereotypes of race, religion or gender intruding....
I am not that bright really:rolleyes:Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
I like the freedom of it. My spiel works quite well on here, and I don't have to worry about all the social niceties in 'real' life - er - like upsetting people or being too clever for my own good. So it's cheap and easy downtime, sometimes better than watching tv.
Plus it's handy for stalking people.0
