Level 2 just sounds good, it's of little use to anyone other than a scalper, and even then it's questionable, kind of a amusing that a spreadbetting company offer it since they dislike scalpers.
Yahoo's level 2 is not really level 2 in the proper sense as it is only the order flow over the BATS exchange, therefore it may not show the best bid or ask at any given time since that may be on another exchange.

Just started it up and its working again now with advfn

Which symbol do I use for indexes, Im just using the etf at the moment

At the top of Quote Tracker there is an "index panel". Right click on the panel and choose "edit indices". Note you can choose a different server for the indices from the main source that you use for share prices. Some sources (e.g. Bloomberg) only display the current index values, they don't allow you to download any historic price.

QuoteTracker is probably a good little freebe, if you marry it to a reliable data feed

  • Before I go down the entire list registering and sign up to every free service, I dont suppose anyone knows which firm would cover american stocks intraday or even better uk and usa stocks, dont want to pay just yet

even if I dont get that working I still can see vwap on the ftse intraday so I must remember to leave this running if only for that :)

Seems to show we crossed it at 15:20 today, also in retrospect a good time to buy till close

eSignal maybe? Here is the complete list of quote sources and what they offer - http://www.quotetracker.com/qsources.shtml I don't think what you are after will be available on a free service though!

eSignal will cover just about any market you need, but they are not free.

I must have messed some settings up if the rest of you are succeeding with the software. Now I was wondering if you can use the software with your own raw data. For example, free version only gives 6mths historical data, but I can download older data through yahoo - would I then be able to import this in?
  • I dont see an option for a custom import but yahoo is already on the historical backfill sources. However it will be the american yahoo not uk so needs a .L on the end of stocks to be recognised

No unfortunately the software limits it to 6 months historic or 2 days intraday on the free version regardless of where the data is from. I read somewhere that these limits were put in after TD Ameritrade bought the company that makes QT. With the registered version you can go back as far as the data allows.

OK. After your encouraging posts re the software, I've decided to give it another try. So far so good. The intaday chart is working nicely. BUT the historical chart is definitely not. It's OK when I use one of the other charts like BigCharts, but the default historical just has a few random vertical lines on it.
Slowly getting used to the software though...

    Oh, BUT:
It's 14:11 and I haven't had any data update since 13:47. I've got 2Mb broadband but it says my bandwidth on the software is 0. Nothing else is using bandwidth. Any ideas?
