There's a similar thread here
As this isn't an Old Style query, I'll move it to the Vent board, where it may be merged with that one.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
I would contact them by telephone. I have moved twice in the last few years. Twice told them on the internet I have moved and twice ended up having to phone them to tell them I have moved because they have no record of it on the internet!!
By the way good luck trying to convince them you have a TV but aren't going to use it to watch TV. As they aren't going to believe you and your going to get a lot of nasty letters from them and a lot of hassle from them. People without any TV have a hard enough time getting them off their backs let alone someone who has one!0 -
Write to your MP - that works !0

A friend is plagued regularly by the TV licence people, although he doesn't have a TV - he lives in the foothills of the Mournes, and there is absolutely no reception, even satellite is poor!0

I'm not sure you have an obligation to notify them of anything. You could just bin the letters with the rest of your junk mail.0

And you do not have to let them into your house, no matter what they say, they do not have the right of entry0

If they say they want access to the property, say they have to get a warrant first and make an appointment.
To do that, they will have to prove in front of a judge how their detector technology works, especially the vans.0 -
They are all about Huffing and Puffing but they dont have any actual teeth.
I think they only took about 10 people to court last year, only applied for about 2 warrants, and the average fine was only about 10% more than the cost of the TV license itself (nowhere NEAR the £1000 fine they band about!)0 -

And they were no doubt for people who actually should have had a licence. Which you don't, OP.0 -
They must spend a fortune sending threatening letters, i've had about 8 in the 10 months i've been here. When I moved I tried to change my address on their website, but it wasn't recognised, so phoned them only to be cut off 3 times, so ended up sending the form in the post.
I actually got another letter yesterday saying they'd be in the area...how nice!
I'm not going to make the effort to contact them again, I have a TV, I have a licence and they happily take payment so I can't see what the problem is.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100
