Here are three easy recipes to try. I make all my own bread and I am currently trying to make wheat tortillas but have not got it quite right yet :(
White loaf
- 320 ml water
- 500 g white bread flour
- 1 & 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 25 g butter
- 1 tsp dried yeast
granary
- 350 ml water
- 500g granary bread flour
- 1 & 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 25 g butter
- 1 & 1/2 tsp yeast
Wholemeal flour
- 350ml water
- 350 g wholemeal bread flour
- 150 g white bread flour
-2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar
-25 g butter
- 1 & 1/2 tsp dried yeast
If you are using a bread machine you need to put the ingredients in the correct order according to your bread machine instructions. Some require the wet ingredients first and others the dry, some need half the flour, then the wet ingredients and butter, the rest of the flour and then the salt, yeast, sugar on top.
After the bread dough has risen then cook at 210 c for 35-40 mins on a greased baking tray. I tend to top mine with seasame or sunflower seeds shaped as a large round cob shape.

hi, I make bread every other day. My way is-
get a plastic jug that measures a pint put half pint of cold and half a pint of boiling water in it, if you can leave your finger in for 5 seconds it is not to hot (or this will kill fresh yeast) put in 1 oz of fresh yeast (asda give it away if u ask at bread counter & morrisons sell it) and add 2 tbls of sugar mix it up put cling on a leave for 10 mins, stir again it should hiss. In a big bowl put 1kg of strong flour ( i wait till they have BOGOF and buy loads) and 2 level tbls of salt (to much and it kills yeast, salt needed for elasticity) mix with a fork (easier) add all fluid whilst mixing, knead until it is smooth about 5 mins
put olive oil all over it with your hands ( to stop it sticking) and leave in bowl and cover with cling for 1 hr knead it again for about 2 mins i cut it into 3, 2 bigger bits for loaved and a small bit for making garlic bread, put in tins and leave to rise for another hr then stick in oven you know when they are done cause you can smell them, take out knock the bottom of bread if done they sound hollow. sounds faffy but I do it in between jobs. I tried Glad's recipe, added in 'rising' time, and my boyfriend thinks it's one of the best bread I've made (been trying different recipes for the past 6 months!). the fact that he helped himself to some more later on was a good sign! after I first kneaded the mixture together, I covered the dough with olive oil and cling film and let it rise in a warm place for an hour. took it out, kneaded again for a few minutes before putting it in a bread tin, clingfilm-ed and let rise in warm place for another 30 mins before baking for 45mins at 180 degrees.

i can only presume thats because it's not pumped full the the preservatives and crap that you get when you buy shop bought bread?
i got a breadmaker today as a pressie from my boyfriend (its the welsh st valentines day today). im sooooo excited, have wanted one for ages, cant wait to try it out.
in particular, im looking to try my hand at baked bean bread (as championed by jack dee on series 1 of celeb big bro lol) has anyone else tried it?
also, are cakes made in breadmakers any good? i've been dying to have a crack at a farmhouse fruit cake and a corrot cake for ages, just dont trust my thieving student flatmates :mad:

I do the same as caz2 but
I use 1tsp of sugar in my 2lb loaves and they rise fine.Also about 1tsp of salt to take the sweetness away.
My bread machine says 4tbsp of milk powder but it works just as well without.0
