HD Tv will be great, but in my opinion isn't ready yet. This is mainly due to the lack of sources (broadcasts, hd-dvd's, etc...).

Personally I'll wait until there are more sources, and prices have dropped. I don't see the point of paying a premium for something I can't use to it's potential. Ok, so most lcd/plasma's will be ready once hd does properly kick off, but I'd rather buy something then and arguably get a newer, more advanced, possibly cheaper (or same price) piece of kit.

Well Sky HD is becoming available now. Only issue is that most HDTVs do not have 1080i as native resolution which is what Sky is going to broadcast on most channels. But still it will look damn good on a 720p screen anyway.

They start broadcasting this month. It's only a select number of channels though (around 10 I think) and the HD Sky box alone costs £300 with an additional £10 a month for HD. You're talking £700-800 over the first year. It's too much of a premium.

I agree SKY are taking the micheal with this. Are you aware that your extra £10 per month only gets you the HD channels ON YOUR CURRENT PACKAGE. Eg. if (like me) you are on family package your £10 will only get you sky1 HD and National geographic HD !!!

True its expensive, but its there and available shortly and if you have already spent or are thinking of spending a few thousand on a HD system then getting HD is probably a worthy premium.
There are other HD sources too, like xbox 360 (for games) and if you have a crazily big hard drive you can download HD (few 10gb+ per film usually).

And any new service/ product always has an inflated price when it comes out to capitalise on those that must have the latest thing. Within 12 months the prices will have dropped significantly and there will also most likely be more channels available so a double discount.

In the mean time there is downloaded HD content, xbox 360, upscaled films, HD-DVD if you want to import etc
