We were in Debanhams at Meadowhall a few months back, walked past a small 26" lcd tv. My wife (who is not a gadget/techie like me!) stopped in her tracks and said, wow look at that picture its excellent! It was just a picture of a fireplace burning. BUT in full HD. I was extremely impressed with it!
Ummmm yeah read my earlier post. 0 0

But that means your gonna have to buy a special HD DVD just to watch that fire burning. Four HD films on the American market, only problem with that is you need the right hardware to play HD DVD's.......and then theres HDtv, who wants to watch the ITN News on HD?
 Needs more time....0

Also the latest generation games consoles (aka xBox360) can output direct to an hdtv in 1080i. Therefore all my games can run in HD, all my existing dvds can play in HD (I appreciate these will be upscaled though).0

I mean whats wrong with the picture we have nowadays, talk about the Jones's.
I sort of agree! This is true when you can't afford a screen bigger than 10 inches. :rotfl:
Look at proper HD video on a 50 inch screen and then you can discover the truth
If you can't see anything wrong with your SD picture then you need to upgrade your TV!
On the original topic, you should be able to play HD video through a PC on your LCD as long as you have a compatible input, ideally DVI.0

HDtv is an awesome sight to see unfortunatly to get the best of it you need a HD source and there arnt many of those about yet yeah thr xbox 360 is HD but buying a new very expensive tv for a games machine that also cost a fortune? Sky yeah they are offering HD as long as you pay extra for it. there are also the i and p options and the resolution options 720/1080 and the round the corner 3160 I think diving in spenidign alot of money at the moment isnt the best thing to do. wait untill the standards are actually set then take the plunge.
I think that there is only 1 HD DVD available in the UK at the moment bugs life or one of the other disney/pixar films ohh and the thing to play it on is another expensive thing to buy. The future of video source is changing too bluray or HD-DVD who knows what will win? proberbly HD-DVD as it isnt a sony format but I again will be waiting.
to the OP, you cant make your no hd tv hd you could get a hd source but it isnt really worth it for your current screen but you will be ready for when you get an HD screen.0

Its just another must have that you dont need.
P.S trying to put Radio against Tv is a ridiculous analogy as they are two different types of media.
There are many things in life you dont NEED. But if you like something, and have the money, why not. Just because you dont want one there is no need to pull other people for wanting one or being interested. You have your opinion fair enough, I accept that. But it gets frustrating for everyone reading this thread when you keep posting "read my post".
To be honest if you were looking at prices 5 months ago in a Sony Store then you are allready out of touch with prices. Firsly Sony gear is overpriced, and secondly prices have significantly dropped over the last 5 months. You can now pick up a good quality 32" HD LCD for less than £800.
Do you have a video recorder? Do you NEED it??
Remember when the first Sony Betamax Video was released in the 80's, and its price? Well it was about £400; when you could buy a new Vauxhall Cavalier for less than £2000. So approx cost now would be almost £3000 (assuming 12-15k for a quality large family car). But people wanted them and bought them. People buying caused price to drop, which caused more to buy. Eventually a video was "the norm" for a lot of households.
This is how the technology market works.
Now does this put HD TV into perspective?0
