Why I LOVE Ocado
Comments
-
Ocado are taking the line that they are Green and customers can read the Times online. A free newspaper was a lovely touch by Ocado and was nice to enjoy with a cup of coffee when you had finished unpacking your shopping.
I believe its a bad cost cutting decision.
I've never done an online grocery shop but am thinking of starting - I have the option of Tesco, Sainsbury's or Ocado (Asda and Waitrose don't offer home delivery in my area) so am pleased to hear such positive views of them in general.
One question though - as a single-person household I tend to find that the minimum spend required to take advantage of Ocado vouchers tends to be quite high (eg £90) - I would struggle to spend this even on a monthly shop (bearing in mind I'd need to top up on fresh stuff elsewhere through the month). Anybody living alone/in a low-spend household got any tips?Operation Get in Shape

The vouchers I get send tend to have a £70 minimum spend - if you then take off your 15%, that's roughly £59-£60 to pay (if you've managed to bag a free delivery slot). I use this to stock up on bulky items like washing powder and cartons, so find it reasonable as a "storecupboard" shop, with maybe a couple of treats...I only do it about every 2 months though (and only if they send me a voucher!).
I'm glad they're stopping the free paper thing. It always got on my wick - just something else to recycle!0 -
Response from Ocado:
We had a yearly contract with The Times to provide this service and we have come to a joint decision to stop this. This is linked into the contract ending and our commitment to being environmentally friendly. I understand how frustrating that this must be. We are looking into continuing this partnership in other ways.
The reason I was ever so slightly miffed about this was that I only signed up for On Demand so that I could get a delivery on a Saturday morning with a decent paper to read. I may as well have carried on booking late night delivery slots with no charge and waited for the regular 15% vouchers to arrive in my in-box.
This isn't a moan, just explaining my slight frustration!
I can obviously understand that some people don't want the free newspaper and it is therefore a waste. It's just a shame that we weren't given a choice I guess.0 -
I often receive a 'Get 15% off when you shop for delivery tomorrow with Ocado' email from them on Monday or Tuesday (sometimes Wednesday). Minimum spend is usually £75 or £85.
I don't know what I've done to qualify for these offers; my sister, who lives nearby, is less fortunate.
I get these but only when I haven't shopped for a week and at short notice.. this suits me because I tend to shop fortnigtly and am happy with the cheap evening deliveries too. For new customers not sure if it still works but at one time if you went through the registration process and didn't order, vouchers would keep coming until you did.
I'm a great fan, for me there's little to fault, they turn up when they say and are always courteous and polite. I love the fact that groceries are subdivided so I can unpack freezer/ fridge / cupboard in order, that the fruit and veg hasn't been handled by numerous other shoppers, that the receipt clearly shows which fresh food has the shortest date and most importantly of all with very few exceptions everything I order arrives with rare substitutions and I'm not rushing out to a local supermarket the next day to complete my shop.
On a financial note I spend less with two ocado deliveries and trips to my local shops than I did with weekly tesco shops. As well as price matching tesco I find that own brand products don't taste second best , offers are easy to find and probably most importantly I don't end up impulse buying dvd's and kids clothes at the same time!0 -

Their own brand Ocado oranges are amazing, heaps juicier and tastier than the expensive Waitrose oranges and about a third the price.0 -

Well after being sent an email every week that arrived after I'd done my tesco shop they finally sent one at the wkend I could use :j
20% off a £75 shop so I'm a happy girl
I spent so much less than I usually do as I 'know' the tesco site and have always found ocados a bit of a pain tbh but we'll see I may just be converted :eek:0 -
I usually shop online with sainsburys, have tried tesco and asda in he past, but have been over charged, and found the fresh stuff a bit Tired looking. Will go and see if ocado deliver in my area. I always thought they were a bit"posh and pricey" for me, but maybe not:)
