Thanks for this, I have been using Sainsburys for the past 3 months or so now (after I gave up on Asda) so might give them a go for my next delivery.

  • I often receive a 'Get 15% off when you shop for delivery tomorrow with Ocado' email from them on Monday or Tuesday (sometimes Wednesday). Minimum spend is usually £75 or £85.

I don't know what I've done to qualify for these offers; my sister, who lives nearby, is less fortunate.

You are lucky, Chunter, I would definitely make use of those offers but never get them!

I like Ocado too, but use Tesco if there is a points deal. Our Ocado man knocks on the door and offers us a free paper before unloading the shopping - it is all very civilised. Last shop I got a very nice bottle of my favourite wine for free as I had been shopping with them for 4 years even though I probably only use them once every 3 or 4 months.

Only criticism is that they use way too many bags with the shopping, sometimes I get a single item in one bag. I think there is a bit of a mixed up company policy there.

Claire, if you do a first shop, you should be able to find a really good discount voucher.
  • I am going to start shop with Ocada.com. The code i got is 15% off the bill. Is there a better deal for a first timer. I haven't register with them yet. They didn't mention delivery charge on their site.
  • What are Ocado's prices like? I heard something about John Lewis mentioned in one of the above posts.... and I fear paying significantly more for supposed "quality".

Also, do any of them do free delivery without having to rely on voucher codes?

I can't stand the tesco.com website but so far I have put up with it simply because of the product range and prices they offer.

I also love Ocado, and discovered them by accident...

I won £250 of John Lewis vouchers last year, and times were tough we decided to do our weekly shopping from Ocado to use up some vouchers (and enable us to keep our cash which was earmarked for shopping).

I was amazed how fantastic they were as I expected them to be overpriced and "too posh" for me, and have used them ever since.

    1) They accepted my John Lewis vouchers online.
    2) They "price-match" Tescos, so yeah they sell the really expensive silly stuff, but if you are buying regular brands like Nescafe, Kelloggs, Andrex etc its no dearer than Mr T's.
    3) The level of service was amazing, I got an email confirmation, I got a text the day before delivery telling my the drivers name, van reg etc, and another text an hour before, and the delivery man could not have been nicer and politer.
    4) There were no substitutions (and haven't been in any orders I have placed since either)
    5) The most important part..... My family loved the food, and my kids have actually asked that I keep getting the shopping via Ocado, as they much prefer it to Asda/Tesco.

Whilst I haven't yet had shopping delivered from Sainsburys yet, I have had it delivered from Asda and Tesco and Ocado was miles better, and since spotting the van and asking me about it, a few of my neighbours have now converted to Ocado as well.

  • Could't agree more OP! I'm an Ocado convert, started about 2 years ago after strings of distasters trying with Tesco & Asda online. Their service has been consistenly excellent and I endorse everything you've described, its been my experience too.

Can't recommend them highly enough :D

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass but learning to dance in the rain
  • Received an email from Ocado this morning saying they're stopping sending a free copy of The Times with every order from 18 January. This was one of the reasons I signed up for On Demand in November so I'm quite disappointed - it's £1.50 on a Saturday so pretty much paid for the (reduced) On Demand subscription. Will send them an email but don't suppose I'll get anywhere...

I too was very disappointed to read that the free copy of The Times has been discontinued. I wouldn't have signed up to the On Demand membership without it and won't renew once my membership is up. Can't usually fault Ocado goods & service but the free paper was a real treat and I will miss it as this year's resolution is to save the pennies by not buying newspapers.
  • Yes, I'll miss the free newspaper but wouldn't shop with any of the other online supermarkets even if they sent all of the newspapers every day as part of their service. Ocado beats the others by a mile. You can always read the newspaper(s) online.
