Why I LOVE Ocado

I was going to post this as a reply to another thread, but thought i'd just put it here.....i'm actually not keen to publicly say this, but rarely do i love something as much as this that i've got to publicly profess how much i think it's awesome, others please flame me if you think i'm out of line ;-)

I used to use Tesco online alot. I got use to their interface and it was kinda nice (but i hadn't experienced other sites). I always found whenever i went online after work in the evenings to order the tesco website was PAINFULLY slow. I liked tesco because i always found vouchers on mse forums and applied these. However, I found tesco were reasonably good but their 2 hour slots meant i had to wait around for ages and sometimes they missed deliveries. It got to a point where they'd missed a couple in a row where I just decided to 'give sainsburys a go'. My colleague at work used them and i wanted to give my food an upgrade. I look and compared prices and infact sainsburys were cheaper than tesco on my shop.

Used sainsburys about a dozen times, it was fine, kinda like tesco, food was improved quality, you could tell. but they bungled up a couple deliveries (ie couldn't even deliver that day and had to wait till the next week for a delivery!!). So i decided, well i'll just give ocado a go, i also compared prices and surprisingly they were as cheap if not cheaper than tesco.

Immediately when i joined ocado, i found their website way easier to use, QUICK (and i can even do it on iphone - they have an app - so now, each monday evening, when i'm back from work, i go into the iphone choose the items (pictorially) it's so easy and about 30 secs later i've completed my grocery order without even booting up my PC.

Then my first order:
1/ they gave me a nice welcome to ocado pack and a bar of lindt chocolates
2/ over the next 8 shops or so, they always gave me something free for my next order just using a code
3/ they had a 1 hour delivery slot which was joy compared to the 2 hr slots sainsburys and tesco had
4/ they didn't charge for delivery for the times i got groceries (ie late evenings, after dinner)

Then later orders:
1/ again 1 hour delivery slots
2/ occasional promotional gifts - like nudie juice, cereals, etc for free
3/ easy online claiming form (no need to call if i get a damaged good and refund within 2 days), occassionally they ask you to call them/they call u to verify the problem
4/ only twice in about a year of using them, were they late, they would always call. in one case they gave me a £5 voucher after i emailed, second time a bottle of wine and £5 voucher
5/ anniversary of joining (a few weeks ago) they gave me a free bottle of wine
6/ on occassions they've delivered early. and called in advance, personally by the driver which is nice. plus, they typically deliver say 60% of time in the first 15 mins of the delivery hour which is great and maybe 10% of time, ahead of the delivery time if i'm home they always call first...)
7/ can book deliveries close to 4 weeks in advance so i make it a point to book the next delivery. and I can always change up to 1220am on the day of delivery
8/ i get an sms of any substitutions on the morning of the delivery (which is in the evening)
9/ I get an sms the night before you can't change to remind you if you want to do any changes.

Recently they've had two folks do the delivery instead of one

They collect my returned bags

Their bags are stronger that they deliver in and are colour for the type of product

...and i read they are cheaper than waitrose on many products. Yes it's dearer than tesco or sainsburys on certain things (maybe), but seriously, go in and compare the prices... ull be shocked and the standard of service compared to tesco and sainsbury are WORLDS apart.

I feel like some nutty advocate but they are genuinely good. I hope tesco and sainsburys pick up their game. i've never tried asda.

  • I agree with you 100% I always checkl their special offers and often can save a fortune. Their drivers are delightful and if there is the slightest proble with anything you get refunded no hassle. They are the epitome of good customer service - you get great quality and if you are a clever shopper you save a tidy penny too. I just buy my fruit and veg locally and volume products from either lidl/aldi or costco!
  • How long ago did you do a Sainsburys online order?

Would love to try them but they don't deliver to me. Tesco, Sainsbury and Asda all do.

    About 14 mths ago.
  • I like Ocado too and actually recently signed up for the Ocado on demand which means free delivery for every order. Worked out it will save us £12.00 per month and they tesco price match.

If any items are damaged as well I have always been refunded and got to keep the item too :)

Thanks. Reason I ask is we've been shopping online with Sainsburys for a few months now and they have always had 1 hour time slots in that time.

    Reasons I Hate Ocado

Signed up for my first delivery as got a voucher. Due at 9.30-10.30 this evening - 11 comes and goes, no food, no contact, nothing. Eventually get through to customer helpline to be told my order will be with me at 12.30 am (yes half past midnight!) and I can't have my frozen or chilled goods as will have been out of the depot too long. Told them to bring it back in the morning as I'm not waiting up.

I am livid - I was expecting so much more a I love the varity available and am a big fan of John Lewis group. Not even a courtesy call from the driver. Back to Sainsbury for me.

They are no longer part of John Lewis, the only link is the sale of Waitrose items (they have a commercial agreement) and the JLP pension fund has a stake in the company apart from that it is nothing to do with JLP.

Have you tried WaitroseDeliver? a much better service and it's free delivery all the time (min spend £50)
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

I'd love to, there is a huge waitrose just near me (literally 800m down the road) but they don't do delivery?!!?
