It's from BT, someone has sent a text message to your land line and its directing you to a service where the message is spoken to you by a very robotic voice.

It doesn't cost you anything to receive the message, my brother in law did it to us a couple of weeks ago
  • Do you use BT? It appears to be a number you can use to receive spoken texts: www.bt.com/bttext/faq_trouble.html

I found several people having the same problem in a simple Google search.

    Isn't that a BT notification?
The number seems to be BT

Had one of these some weeks ago - the call was for someone else in my office whose phone was not answered and was diverted to my phone.

The robotic voice was hideous and I was so confused as it was not meant for me anyway and I didn't know what it was all about!!!

Not a great service, in my view. Might be useful for visually impaired people.

Could be very useful. Since sending a text message from a mobile is much cheaper than making a call, but I don't have a mobile, it means that people can use their mobiles to contact me at reasonable cost by sending a text message to my home telephone.

The only problem is that this service has not been publicised, so the OP did not know what was going on.

It's an amazing service you can send messages with rude words in and its just so funny to hear the robotic voice say them :o

If you have a BT line, you can permanently opt out of this 'service' for no charge.

Phone 0800 587 5252 and ask to 'Opt out from TTS converted SMS'
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Is there a way to cancel "BT Reverse Charge" or whatever they call it. My daughters ex-boyfriend keeps using it to ring us.

i always thought you had to accept a reverse charge call? if so just say no when asked if you will accept it

if this has changed ring up bt and tell them you want it off

I too recently had one of these audio text calls. I couldn't understand how Tom Baker/Dr. Who knew my name and wanted my son to call him back. (Son's friend didn't leave his name in his message.). I was very confused!
