Well, it looks like Tuesday or Wednesday at the earliest for delivery, so i'll have to solider on with this old piece of rust for the time being!
I have found my Windows XP disk, but i'm guessing the license for this machine won't be able to be used for the new one if any problems? Not sure what to do if there is any problems.
I'll let you know how it is when it arrives and i've set it up
Not sure if I should start a new thread or not, but will need some advice on how to get things across to the new machine. Not worried about files such as video and picture or my programs such as CCleaner etc - i'll burn them onto CD. I'm more worried about things such as bookmarks in IE, Firefox and Chrome, as I have an extensive list and not just me either. Other in household may be upset if I can't transfer them0 -
Just a point but you'll struggle with some of the later football manager games on that - 09 and the new one. The graphics card is nowhere near good enough to cope with the 3d graphics aspect, and 1 gig of RAM won't allow for much more than a couple of leagues at most.
You might get a bit more joy with fm08, that didn't have 3d graphics and didn't have as much of a memory requirement, so you could probably get 7 or 8 leagues running with a large database. I used to use a 256 graphics card with P4 & 2 gigs RAM and could get about 12 or 13 going at a decent speed on large database.

Depends on if its a retail or OEM copy you have already... If its retail its fine.0 -
Well, i've been using FM 05 and 06, so still got the small dots moving around the screen! 09 won't be used until around 2012 for me
I'm usually 3 years behind the times
Sadly, the XP I have is OEM. Hopefully i'll have a licensed copy on the PC when it arives.0 -
You can use the File and Settings Transfer Wizard to move stuff from the old pc via usb stick/cd....
find it from Start - all programs - system tools - file and settings transfer wizard..fire it up and follow the instructions
It'll transfer bookmarks, e-mail settings, etc., all that good stuff you want to take with you from old pc to new.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Thanks GunJack. You may have just saved me from a verbal pasting0

Right, i've had my e-mail to say the PC has been sent out via courier, so hopefully it will turn up tomorrow or Wednesday.
Now, this newer machine is significantly betterr than the one I currently have:
P4 3ghz processor compared to 863mhz
1gb Ram compared to 512mb
DVD RW compared to CD RW
Only lesser thing is 80GB HDD compared to 120GB HDD
Now, will this newer machine mean I can convert/split video files faster? I'm not sure if the processor the Ram will speed this up or not, or whether the files will still convert/split at the same speed?
I think i'm ready. I have all my installation discs for my programs ready & any file I want to keep onto CD, ready to transfer over (although I will keep them all on the old PC which will now be backup)
One final Q - Anyone know of any good (free) DVD burning programs. I've found a few, but any good/bad reviews will be appreciated.
I'll go and have a look myself now.
Thanks to anyone who can advise about any of the above or anything that I need to remember when using a new PC, so I don't come online with no protection!0 -

The new machine should be a lot faster at manipulating video files
DVD burning - I recommend CDBurnerXP
http://cdburnerxp.se/
Protected - my (free) recommendations:
Antivirus: http://www.avast.com/
Firewall: http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/0 -
I hope it is faster as some videos are rather slow on this machine!
CDBurnerXP does DVD's too? Handy to know, thanks. Having only ever burnt CD's and seeing it called CDBurnerXP, I just assumed, obviously incorrectly, that it only burned CD's and not DVD's.
I shall give your other recommendations a go as well. Will the Windows firewall not be ample on XP?
Cheers.
I'm in all day. I bet the PC doesn't turn up today :rolleyes:0 -
New pc should be much better than old one
Only thing, you may want to put an extra 1GB RAM in it after you've run it for a few weeks and tried it out, but let's not run before you've walked it round the block a few times......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
