car hire usa already booked

Hi guys

i have booked car hire in los angeles for a week, and i am just querying
it is with netflights.co.uk through thrifty.co.uk
now reading martins article it says you may want to cover yourself for excess but have read all documents i have on it (only 1 page) and does not say anthing about excess

so does anyone know what it would be
as a policy only £45 so may just insure that seperate

also is there anyother insurance i need to get so i am fully covered

    Hiya...

    Did the terms say this?

    YOUR RENTAL INCLUDES

    * Unlimited mileage.
    * LDW (Loss Damage Waiver).
    * SLI (Supplemental Liability Insurance).
    * UMP (Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist Protection).
    * Taxes & fees.
    * CFC (Customer Facility Charge) and HSF (Homeland Security Fee).

    If so you should be good to go and not need anything else. We have rented car hire quite a few times in US and never had to pay anything with all that coverage ;)
    The only time we buy an extra policy is when we go to Spain etc. because of all that excess problems heh. You shoud be fine though if you have what is stated in bold ;)

    Well you should be fine with all that ;) I usually use Dollar when going to the States and they are alot alike (with their terms & car fleet) with Thirfty but if unsure give em a quick email and ask if this indeed covers windows, tires but honestly I think you would be ok ;)

  • hi
    I've booked a dollar car thru netflights and if I want tyres windows and keys covered I need to take out Road Safe when picking up car. Apparently these are not covered under 24 breakdown cover. So best to check just to be sure.

    Just completed a similar US booking (Thrifty through Netflights) and yes you are 'Nearly' fully covered without any excess but as a previous poster said, even the 'inclusive' cover that netflights has for the US bookings does not cover a few items like damage to tyres, roof.

    You can obviously add this coverage onsite but I prefered to cover myself by purchasing an annual cover with Insurance4carhire.com that does cover these extra items. This cost 65 (less with 20% quidco).

    As a side note, I notice you are going to California. Last tyear I made a booking (different agent and hire cpompany) and paid extra for additional drivers. I then was told in LAX that in CA additional drivers are included for free. ( I am not 100% sure of this so PLEASE CONFIRM the accuracy)

    hi thanks for you info have found https://www.carhireexcess.com seems to be just £35 is there any difference between yours and mine except yours is annual
    it just i am only going to have car for 11 days but want to make sure i dont have to pay any extra if the worst happens
  • As of today husband and I got a credit card that comes with car hire excess so next time we hire a car we will surely be using that card. We are living in Norway and this card was rated the best card here but surely you guys have to have atleast 1 card with this? I know US has tons of card with this but to my knowledge this is still fairly new to have on a credit card here.

  • I asked the same question because I'd just read in another forum of a UK couple getting a claim from Dollar that the car was damaged, but wasn't when they were back in the UK. Why can they say it is fully inclusive when the excess could be up to £2000.

    Looks like the rental companies have spotted another scam to use.

    Can not the person you are going with put the booking in their name?

    "You can reserve a car for someone else and you can rent a car and let someone else drive it, but you can't rent it for them."
