Well, been out from 11 til 3pm with RL friends which was good! Managed to get out of the house almost on time!

Had a debate with friend about making up bottles because she puts boiled water in bottle, cools it down, puts it in fridge and then when he wants the bottle she adds the formula and warms the bottle. I tried to explain that the water was supposed to be hot when she added the formula to kill the bacteria in the powder but she thinks the way I do it is wrong!!!
I just make up a few bottles with hot water, cool quickly, fridge and warm when needed!

Am jealous of those of you with Lo's born recently who are getting such long gaps between feeding at night! We go 4 hours through the night without fail and last night we had screaming fits even after he'd had the bottle! The baby Gaviscon must be working thou as we are back to drinking full bottles and no grunting noises afterwards :j

Belly button is minging today! Granuloma dropped off (noticed it on nappy at 7am) but the silver nitrate has taken a layer of skin off his belly button and it's grey and gunky _pale_

It is very confusing. Everything I read said the water should be min 70 degrees so I have been doing what I assume you are doing an adding the powder to the warm water before cooling. How are you cooling the bottles quickly? Sitting them in cold water?

Hope Jack's bb is ok. Holly's stump fell off quite quickly and seemed fine, but last week there was a bit of blood on her vest. HV said just to get right in there when cleaning and it should heal up. It's stopped bleeding but still goes a bit crusty and whiffy each day!

Ahh.. Daddy is home and calm and peace have been resumed :D

Rhys is now 8lb 13.5oz :) So he is still gaining weight but me and the nurse talked about him have the occasional formula feed for the next month or so until we get to weaning. I'm not overstruck on the idea but I'd rather him have formula to keep his weight gain up than only have what I can give him which is restricting what he gets  Nurse is going to talk to dietician about it. Apparently the two other babies they have with kidney problems are on ordinary formula. I'm still going to carry on expressing and giving him as much EBM as I can but am starting to accept I can't give him as much as he needs - or rather I can this week but when his weight goes up next week the numbers don't add up any more :( Ah well.. needs must. Don't know if it'll work but I'm hoping we can go back to fully EBM once weaning is more established until a year but tbh I'm not quite sure how the milk with weaning thing works so I need to read up.

In other news, we're getting a stash of needles to practise giving injections to an orange! Need to master it for when we're away and Rhys needs his jabs on Mon and Thurs. The alternative is to go to the nearest hospital to get it done but that's a hell of a lot of faff for two grown adults who won't do a two minute (very horrid) job.. :o

All's well with FIL. Was nice to chat to him, just us two, for a change :) He's going to keep popping in with veg from the allotment so I can get it pureed for Rhys, so expect lots of "What the hell do I do with this?!" questions, plus we have the HV coming round tomorrow for the weaning chat :)
  • SB, I would love 2 afternoons a week child free, you are so lucky !!

Tia, I hate minestone soup !! Chris bought a lobster broth the other day, and you could still smell it in the kitchen for about 10 hours later :( It was horrid !!

Dylan has finally gone to sleep, lets hope he stays that way for at least an hour as he hasnt really napped today - very unlike him !!

  • Nearly 9lbs elle, thats great !!
Do you think you will be OK to keep expressing when you start going out and about a bit more? Or will you hope to get as much as you need in fewer sessions?
Hope it goes OK for you :)

Not sure. In an ideal world, the formula would take the stress off and my supply would increase - I'm not wholly convinced but I can hope!

Hope Dylan stays asleep for you. Rhys hasn't really napped in the day for the last ten days (since the sedation in squash!) and it's taking it's toll. He's still sleeping almost 6pm to 8am except waking up for feeds and a bit of a play, but he's awake all daytime apart from the odd ten mins on my shoulder. Oddly, OH is in the house 5pm to 7am... hmm, coincidence, methinks not!

Good news on the physio and hydrotherapy :) Did you find out if you'd have to go in with him?
  • Hope is as good as anything elle !!!

Dylan normally sleeps loads through the day and from 8.30pm to 8am without waking, but for some reason yesterday and today, he hasnt slept as much as usual through the day. I dont really mind though, but it is nice to have an hour to myself, its Chris' night to do homework, so him and Jas are in the kitchen doing that, and I am sitting here browsing ebay and catching up here, but only till he wakes up !!

And I do not have to go in to the pool unless he is very unsettled. :)
