i just feel so stupid. i am sat here bawling (although to be fair to doesn't take much for me).
Of course you are bawling!!! I would be at the thought of a train journey alone that I had expected to do with hubby - nevermind travelling to the other side of the world.
You will have accrued holidays whilst you were on Mat Leave...can you not take those in Jan? Even if you have to go back a little earlier to do so (I am thinking lesser of 2 evils here....)
Please don't turn down your mums offer. I think there may be an ulterior motive...she gets to spend all that time with her granddaughter before everyone else wants a piece of the action. If she wants to do it, please let her - for all your sakes.
The prob with 'boiled water' from planes and cafes is that it often hasn't boiled, just been heated to a certain point...although at LO's age it probably doesn't matter that much. Powder is allowed

Where does the time go? :think:0 -
The airports really have to come up with something to make it easier to fly with a baby! It sounds ridiculous.0

i will speak to my mum more when i find out for sure that hubby can't come. i'll see what she says then. i dont like to ask for help, even from my mum, but she can be pushy (in a good way) so might not even give me the choice. i agree re ulterior motive though...she would keep her all to herself for the whole holiday if i let her.
not so worried as you say about the 'boiled' water, but thinking LO doesn't like milk warm, is unpredictible at the best of times as to when she will want milk so i might struggle to have it available when she wants it if it isn't in cartons.
and how keep her occupied...she will think she can walk around the plane. she rarely stays still on your lap. just wants to stand and walk/dance all the time.
will have to look at some toys that will keep her occupied without being noisey (as the 6month+ ones are noisy for interaction)

AF - for what its worth, I always see taking my little girl somewhere as an adventure. It makes it so much more bearable! I have only spent 6 full days at home since her birth 17 weeks ago. We are out and about everyday, whether it be driving 2hrs to see family or going to Asda. Can I suggest that before you go, you spend as much time out of the house with her as possible. This way it wont seem so daunting when you have to do the 'big journey'. I'm no good at the practicalities though, I just shove everything into a bag and hope that I have everything she needs. The way I see it is its not the end of the world if I forget her steriliser (I know some people are hot on this and I am too but I figure baby will survive if I boil the stuff or just wash it if need be), her muslins (there's always tissues, my sleeve, kitchen roll), her spare clothes (the kid wont care if I just wrap her in a blanket until I get more). I realise my approach is a little haphazard but the moment I started to relax on our trips out everyday instead of worrying about what might go wrong, was the moment I really started to enjoy it all.
I appreciate for a trip of this magnitude you will need to be a little more organised than me but we have some great list writers here, who i'm sure will be chomping at the bit to get one of their spread sheets out!
Hugs and kisses to you. I am keeping everything crossed that you can work something out so your OH can accompany you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxProud Mummy to Leila aged 1 whole year:j0 -
AF, I wouldnt worry about a few noisy toys so long as they are not very loud, mos passengers would prefer that than a crying baby !! When we flew with Jasmine we packed a backpack with a few books, toys and a bottle of water, snack etc... so it was all close to handThe two best things I have done with my life
