Whats your price range for a dressing table for Jasmine MM? I can find lovely white ones but they are all around the £100+ mark so quite pricey!

I would teach him to sign proper BSL, not some poxy macaton (or whatever it is) that is no use to anybody.

I was just mulling over (vaguely!) the idea of if Rhys did have communication problems, maybe it would be an idea to try baby signing so we have a "back up" method, as it were.. I dunno..

MFD - i will have to sort of disagree with you! (But maybe only in the case of Special Needs children).

Most special schools use Makaton - as its more simple than BSL. The only way my son can communicate with us is with Makaton. Many SN children, DS included, don't have the ability to learn BSL (or speech for now!) - but Makaton, being simple, is something he can do.
Because of DS doing Makaton in school, DD1 picked it up from a young age. It neither helped or surpressed her speech. (I'm sure she's been yapping on since birth!)

DD2 will also no doubt pick up the makaton as the rest of us are using it to communicate with DS. But i'm positive it won't delay her speech!.

My gripe is that the 'baby signing' groups local to us, are all using different types of signing. If our little ones could learn a standard type of signing - I think it would benefit everyone - not just special needs children, but all children who would learn how to communicate with special children.

Don't let my ranting put you off!!! I kind of like the whole idea of it (I studied BSL at night school whilst I was doing my A-Levels) but I hate the fact that it is not using proper signs...which are really no harder than what they teach.

I reckon it would be good for you and Rhys to go out to a group ;):D

If the doctors will agree.. It's not that I'm not doing what I want because 'they' say we can't, but they've advised me not to go to groups because of the risk of catching illnesses and particularly swine flu :o I'm going to ask more questions on Monday when we see the consultant about it and if she thinks there's any need for flu jabs etc (although it won't prevent any of us getting it).
I guess you need to speak to people like Tara and 3 about whether they think early signing classes would have been beneficial for their boys?

Feel free to hit me with your opinions, ladies :) ETA: Oh, you beat me to it, thankyou! :D
.. Is sami away on her holibobs?

Yup, went today :) I think she was updating her FB status en route! :D
