I have the say in it
Right now I am interested in this speech and language department, I'd like to go and have a look around and find out more. As he is now I don't think he will do very well at my local primary school. His speech just isn't good enough.
A conversation with him is like this..
Me - Amber looks like you.
Chris - No! Ah air (hand goes to his head and makes buzzzz sounds like hair clippers, he means 'short') moa. (Ambers hair is short, mine is long)
I was talking to my nephew who is a year younger than him and the difference is huge. Christopher sounds like an 18 month old even though he has the understanding of a 4 year old and has the words, he simply can't make his mouth work to say them. You get the vowels and a few constinants, single sylables only.
There is also a few problems with colour recognition. He consistently confuses colours and has problems with numbers... don't know how to describe it, he mixes up his numbers, theres a name for it but my mind is blankI wish you could meet Jake, when he started school he sounded like that, now at 15 you wouldn't know he was any different to anyone. When his teacher said he was predicted GCSE c's I cried! The school worked so hard with him and he was talking by 7, but he still gets muddled. When I asked him to lay the table the other day he couldn't remember which was a knife or fork, and the amount of times he's put his dirty washing in the tumble drier or the ice cream in the fridge! Anything that does a similar job he can't distinguish, but he has his on way of dealing with things and I have to step back and let him do it.
Oh, you two really do give me great hope, you know that:D
Tia, wold you consider getting him one to one help? Can the local primary do that? Or if their bullying policy is a bit crap, that might be a bad idea

MFD We've always had three! Am I just greedy!
My argument was that if I happened to bump into Robbie and Johnny Depp at the same party, I wouldn't be able to choose so would have to 'do' both!
Tia Make sure you get what you want/what Chris needs. When DS was about to start school, they were insisting that he 'try' normal school with support to 'see how it goes'.
He's now 12 and still not speaking - but i'm so glad I fought to get him into the wonderful special school he went too. It brought him on in other ways brilliantly - which I don't believe would have happened in the 'normal' school.:beer:0 -
Hmmm - just worked out that MIL taking Benjamin 1 day a week will save me £150 per month...I had planned to leave it flexible but that wouldn't be fair on the minder (if they expected a set amount a month and got £150 less it would be unfair).
Need to speak to MIL and see what she wants to do...she is adamant that she wants to look after him for some of the week!!please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
the 'special' school in Coleraine is FAB !!! I go to their chistmas show every year as they raise money for local charities as well as the school !! It is straight across the road from Jasmines school, so both are really close to me, although, there is still the possibility that I will not have to worry about any of this, I am thinking about it !The two best things I have done with my life
