    mm,

Just my thoughts, but consider using the complaints proceedure on the HMRC website citing that they have not followed their own declared course of action:

"If you don't reach an agreement (or you don't keep up the payments you've agreed to make) HMRC has several options. These options may differ depending on where in the country you live. The first option will always be to try to come to an arrangement but failing that the following may occur (with distraint coming first and the other options following):"

In fact the first correspondance you recieved was to threaten you with court action, not the more reasonable and less stressful method of attempting to come to an arragement with you.

Further, you have evidence of responding promptly to their calculations of underpayment in 2007 and this should have been taken into consideration before making this extreme threat.

Have expressed this in formal language cos that's me imagining I was writing to them

Oh yeah and you should of heard me lie through my teeth when I had to phone up and sort out a payment plan, they apparently don't take smoking into it, I said well I have to buy it every week, they said no you don't (the woman was a b!tch) and I was like you wouldn't cut a junkie off so tough, then I lied and said that I was paying back my mum for buying me a washing machine, and that my shopping bill was £100 a week and she was like THATS A LOT HIGHER THAN OUR RECCOMENDATION OF 2 ADULTS AND A CHILD, and I was like well so, I have to buy organic free range as the government tells me too.....and I have to make sure we ALL Get 5 portions of fruit and veg PER day, as the government tells me too.....

I ended up paying £60 a month, considering they were wanting me to pay £250 A MONTH BACK! GOOD ONE! I didn't even have that spare....
  • Aw, hugs MM! I'm sure once you get the dispute forms you'll be able to sort it. Try not to panic (I know, easier said than done) All you can do is wait for the forms and take it from there - you'll be able to dispute it or make payment arrangements if you do indeed owe them, but for now put it to the back of your mind, look at your gorgeous kiddies and smile.

Or look at baileys gorgeous piccies :D
  • Not having a good night here, I'm going to go and try and feed LO to sleep, then I can sneak away to sit on the bathroom floor and cry.

Good point! Homemade chutneys, cashew butter or sun-dried tomato houmous?
Hmm... Might be able to do chutney for some of my family. I think allergies, fussiness and the fact that we're handing over presents in October prevent those for OH's family. Am considering plum jam for some of my family (who would practically inhale it) but can't do it for OH's family as his mum makes it.
