:hello: Can I peek my head in and say hello? I know that I know quite a few of you from the pregnancy thread at earlier times. Not sure I can keep up with this thread though which seems to move even faster than the pregnancy one did!
My little man is 12 days old today, and feels like he's been part of the family forever! He's been home for a week now. Our only issues with him are that as of Sunday he still hadn't regained his birth weight (in fact hadn't put on any weight since leaving hospital on day 4) despite the fact that he feeds for a large part of every day (and night!), and that he's hard to settle at night after a feed, though not during the day. Feeling slightly beleagured by the Community Midwives who won't discharge us due to the weight thing, and all have different advice as to how we should and shouldn't be feeding him (he's fully bf atm). The last one through the door told me I needed to feed him every 2 hours religiously day and night, even though he feeds for an hour continuously at a time and takes both sides . Up until that point I'd been feeding 7-8 hours a day (which the first CMW had said was good for a baby of his age), but having had 2 days of trying to up that to 10 hours a day, my bleeding became twice as heavy as it had been and my pain levels from my c section rocketed up from mild to severe, so I don't think that's sustainable for us.
Any advice from any of the bf gurus would be most welcome. He hasn't gone below the magic 10% and he isn't still losing weight, nor does he look in any way dehydrated or unhappy with life in general. All of his nappies just about are dirty so hard to see how much he is weeing as well, but there are at least 10 dirty ones a day, so we haven't moved on to re-usables yet! My instincts having bf two before him are that everything is fine and the CMWs are being over cautious, but other opinions would be most welcome.0 -
Just wanted to say Hi and Congratulations Nicki. Sorry I cant help with the BF-ing, but dont feel as if you need to keep up just pop in as and when you get the chance! x

sounds like a hell of a morning sami! typical that it all goes crazy when your going out the door eh!!!
we have eventually managed to get erin to take the skinny bottles and she is draining a 9oz bottle stage 2 aptimal and then crying for me to feed her, she is having around 5 bottles a day plus me and also breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner and then supper. she really cant be hungry!! her snacks are usually the leftover veg from the night before and fruit.
i also managed to go to the new school today and get all the forms, they have to go for a visit on friday and abi is going from a class of 8 to 26!!! its a lovely school and the nursery had a grant which they built an amazing garden with! What's for you won't go past you0 -
Hi Nicki! Welcome and congratulations! Your birth story made me cry!
No advice really (sorry!), other than to say you've already done this before with your older ones, so i'd say go with your instincts! You know what you're doing, and i'm sure you'd know if baby was unhappy!
Good News - my 18 month old GHD's stopped working last week, so I remember reading something about a 2 year guarantee - so I sent them back to the manufacturer.
Today, the parcel man has just brought me a brand spanking new shiny set!:j:D:j

Nicki; up here my MWs wouldn't be concerned about Edward's (hope I remembered that right!!) lack of weight gain unless he hadn't gained anything at 2 weeks old.
If it were me I'd just carry on feeding him on demand, as long as he seems happy I would be tooyou could try calling the BFN or LLL or NCT helplines for BF help as they are usually more upto date with things than MWs when it comes to BFing, the BFN helpline number is in Krystaltips's signature.
Congrats on getting a nice birth experience too0 -
