    I love spongebob !!!!!!!!!!

    Noooooo ;)
Suppose it doesnt help that Joshua went through a phase of only wanting to watch spongebob when he had tv time at one point!

Weezle, we always meant to get DS1 a black dolly. More because I had a craving for black jacks when pregnant an ate so much of them that everyone joked he would be born black (as in jet black). Never got him one, or any dolly for that matter. Might get one for Amber if she asks for dolls.

speaking of dolls, have we seen this one....

Its a doll that you breast feed by using the stick on flowers that go over the correct area. People are up in arms about it (or were its old news now).

I had a very controversial golly when I was growing up and I loved him !! I never thought there was anything sinister about him at all, and I had ethnic friends who never had a problem with him either !
I still have my golly pin badge and when Jasmine was taking them all, I didnt let her have it, just in case

So much for Dylan keeping his bottle down, I just put him in his bouncer to go to the toilet and cam back to a baby covered in milk :( He is bound to be not getting enough when he keeps throwing it up !!

I'm also interested to know if anyone's specifically hunted out 'non-white (caucasian)' dollies for their LOs?

I'd like fergus to have a range if possible. The only mum I know who persued this faithfully has 2 little girls who are half Indian and noticed that the eldest would often point to very fair girls and women with blond hair and say 'pretty!' but not people with darker skin.

My pal is keen to raise her girls with a healthy self-image, so resolved to hunt out dollies of all ethnicities. :)

what's everyone up to this weekend?

I am going to help the fairies find a lot of Jiffy bags :o

You may be interested to know that in the usa there has just been launched a new range of barbie's friends with more realistic features, theres a black one that has fuller lips and wider nose and afro hair etc and a hispanic one .

I'm glad you raised this so I can tell you a very funny story :D
In cae anyone has missed it before; My mum works in a primary school.
They have both black and white dolls for playing with (they have other ethiniciys in traditional clothing like a Japanese one in a kimono ec but they aren't played with because they're REALLY expensive) anyhoo,
A little boy put the black doll in the oven of the toy kitchen, after a while he took it back out, brought it to my mum and said "Mrs Bee I burnt the baby" :o:rotfl:

I would buy a doll that wasn't white if Chris wanted it but as he's not fussed with dolls really, he had one but kept trying to eat it's hair so it was confiscated and he now prefers to push mickey mouse round in the pram.
I will make sure he is 'exposed' to other skin colours though because around here its something like 80% white. I can remember every single child from my high school that wasn't white because there were so few of them they stood out IYSWIM.
Does anyone remember the uproar over Tiny Tim? My sister had him and I had Tiny Tears. Tim had a winky you see and people thought it was wrong  I for one would rather my son had a doll with a winky than wonder why it didn't and have to try to explain it!

Plan for today: wash hair, pick up Chris from grandma's and then 'dump' him on Nonna & Pops :p I'm a bad mummy this weekend!

MM - I have a set of golly ornaments. I didn't realise why they were frowned upon until my mum explained - I though he was just some fictional alien type thing(she explained when I was like 7yo, I'm not super thick :))

I went to a stuck up grammar school and there was a boarding department, so we had quite a mixed race school, and there is a strong indian community here too so although predominately white, the kids will see and go t school with other races and hopefully they will not see a difference. I asked my mum how she got me to be uncaring of colour or religion, and she said she didnt do anything, its just she doesnt make a difference, so we never did, so I am hoping Jas and Dylan will be the same.

thats good MM, I think it'll possibly be diff for Chris n Ed as now schools cover other cultures more and have to have the other dolls etc so I possibly won't need to do anything.
Although I do have a husband who is rather racist   I don't want the boys to pick up on his views, he moans about 'them' coming over here to work etc
I say if british men weren't so f'ing lazy there wouldn't be jobs for 'them' to come and do. I don't care where your from, skin colour, religion etc if you are here legally and contributing by working etc then thats fab, good on you for getting a better life :)

There is an indian (not pakistani, I asked) child and a black child (who is one of christophers best mates and is adopted by two white parents and he is so sweet) at nursery but michaels primary school is all white. It's strange where I live, mostly white but very little racism, we'd welcome a more diverse coulture but nobody wants us :(
