Ideally, I want us to do Person A=Mon/Tues/Wed AM and Person B=Wed PM/Thur/Fri for four weeks, then switch over. Then there's variety (some jobs are only done at a certain end of the week so we'd get rusty on the end of the week if we always worked the beginning iyswim) and we get a handover, although it would mean paying us both half an hour a week extra than one fulltime person so I've got to sell that to them (£520 extra a year - I think it's worth it!). We have another pattern at work currently (two days one week, three days the next) but there's no handover in person and that's caused no end of problems so I'm hoping they don't want that - luckily for me, the people who are making the decision on my application are the ones who experienced the bad end of the no handover in the other pattern ;) No way on earth do I want to do all mornings or all afternoons.. I'd just be getting started by hometime! :o

I'm making pretty rotas and bank holiday calculations.. they've taught me well ;)

just playing devil's advocate:o, cos it's best to have an answer worked out for every objection, they might say that a fortnightly shifting pattern might hold less appeal for part-time workers who use a nursery to meet childcare needs (or a CM who needs fixed days each week) because you usually have to pay for the same days each week for a minimum of three months.

Other than that one tiny objection it sounds great :)

  • elle, in my work, job shares are normally
    Mon, Wed and Friday
    Tue, Thurs and Friday
depending on the job if the friday are half days or full days as that is our business report day, so most of our paper work is done then, and none of it can be done in advance to be sent on that day, the figures we need arent released till 7am friday morning !!!

A ha, very good point, thankyou :)

I was working it on my job share partner being my temp cover lady, who is in her 50s with a retired hubby, no children (hence no grandchildren to potentially look after either)... I know, I'm very lucky there! :o (pls pls pls let her want to stay!)

Of course I am going to add the usual "of course I'll be flexible.. with appropriate notice" line too.. ;) I'll include childcare as a consideration I've thought of... although I hadn't until you mentioned it
