ebay excessive postage

I think if you bid on an item you agree to the postage.
However i would be peed off if i paid for say recorded and they sent it 1st class!!
I always refund if i have overcharged by a lot!!(get no thanks mind you!!)
But there have been occasions where i have undercharged and i just have to grin and bear it!!0 -
The seller needs to make a profit, but not through charging excessive postage. Charging the buyer for recorded delivery, then not using that service is wrong.ac24 wrote:sellers need to make a profit, when you buy u should consider the whole amount that your paying including postage.
ive put postage on 1 or 2 things ive sold as double the normal postage cost, theres nothing wrong with it, less ebay fees are paid, as long as the buyer knows how much they have to pay its fine.
if your going to think the way you are then you could also say that the seller bought the item for less then hes selling it and therefore should give you the difference.
but if he didnt post it recorded then that is wrong of him, and you sould definatley claim the money back for that becuase you paid for recorded.
If a seller did this to me, I'd be sorely tempted to say that I had not received the item. After all, I paid for recorded delivery. If the seller than fails to use recorded delivery, he's tried to rip me off. Time to teach him a lesson in why you shouldn't try to rip people off on postage.

I have no qualms about making money out of postage and using low item selling price plus high postage costs to keep eBay fees down and therefore offer a competitive total price
I put this as a footnote to listings
" – please be aware that the postage charged is not a reflection of the amount we pay the Post Office to send your item.It covers the cost of packaging materials and the time spent travelling to and from the Post Office plus time spent in queues there. If you are unhappy at the Bid/Buy Now Price added to the postage charge then please do not bid or buy. Negative feedback will be left for anyone complaining about this after they have agreed to buy"
I take the view that if someone is not happy with the TOTAL price then they should not enter into the deal. However if you paid extra for recorded and the seller did not provide you with that service then you should be refunded that part of the price0 -

Even if you do leave feedback you won't necessarily get it back, so you still might not get another number by your name. Personally I'd leave a neutral saying "Item received fine but not by recorded mail which I paid for":heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
I learnt a lesson earlier this year when I sold an item to a buyer in France. My listing had the choice of standard postage to Europe and also for postal insurance. When the buyer checked out they just paid for the cheapest postage. I sent the item as a small packet to France and didn't require a signature. A couple of weeks later the buyer starts to ask me where his parcel is and can I provide a tracking number.......
Of course I cannot so he takes it to PayPal who suspend my PayPal account until the issue is resolved. I am required to make full refund to the buyer however this is difficult as I have no funds in my PayPal account and as the account is suspended I cannot make any sales or purchases to get money into the account. I do a bank transfer which takes about 10 working days!! before I can refund the buyer and resume selling. In the meantime I used my other PayPal account for selling until ebay suspended this too as it not allowed if you have ANY accounts suspended. IDIOTS.
My point is that you owe it to yourself to send EVERYTHING by recorded post because if you don't then all it takes is somebody to say they didn't recieve and PayPal will ask you for proof of posting. If you cannot provide this you have lost even if the buyer didn't pay for recorded delivery.0 -

Or 'self insure' and save yourself a fortune on recorded/international signed for fees. Then if an item, goes astray just refund and reclaim your losses from the Royal mail...simple!
Even if you send an item recorded or signed for and it doesn't arrive you still have to refund, and you're are out of pocket by more as the RM do not refund the postage costs. There is no need at all for a buyer to have to escalate a lost parcel to a paypal chargeback, if it hasn't arrived then refund. Without proof of delivery you are always going to lose a chargeback which as you say inconveniences you by blocking your paypal account making it difficult to buy or sell on ebay.
Also it is worth noting that International signed for may not be sufficient to stop a chargeback:
