ebay excessive postage

sellers need to make a profit, when you buy u should consider the whole amount that your paying including postage.
ive put postage on 1 or 2 things ive sold as double the normal postage cost, theres nothing wrong with it, less ebay fees are paid, as long as the buyer knows how much they have to pay its fine.
if your going to think the way you are then you could also say that the seller bought the item for less then hes selling it and therefore should give you the difference.
but if he didnt post it recorded then that is wrong of him, and you sould definatley claim the money back for that becuase you paid for recorded.0 -
I'm not saying sellers shouldn't make a profit, just they should use the postal service they have offered. I often include the listing fee in postage costs for the cheaper items I sell.0

On the other hand, ebay has rules about excessive postage - I guess it would be reportable. Having said that, I have on occasion purchased BIN items where the postage obviously is making up for the low price. If you choose to do so its a risk, but you can choose not to deal with that seller.0

dickiebird.. you saw the price , you bid on it...and won. Now you're complaining about the postage?
....and you wonder whether you should now deny receiving the item, even though you HAVE received it..............
speechless..........................

i am quite disgusted by the blatant overcharching of postage, although I will never bid on an item where the postage is ridiculous. They've lost my bid. When I sell I am that conscious of not overpricing that I g
have found myself having to pay more postage than I have been given- my own fault really. 1.50 i feel though is nothing really to be complaining about. DVDs annoy me mostly postage could be3.50 or 4.00 when its never more than a pound
If you dont agree, dont bid
Sorry so long winded0 -
I dont know about this case in particular, although i do want to have a moan in general about sellers "making up a bit extra" with the postage
bought an item the otehr day, £10 p&p, arrived, with special delivery which cost a £5, wrapped in few sheets of A4 paper, i was annoyed, but as people say, you take account p&p when you bid,
and at the end of the day, you should be happy that the item arrives safe and sound with the dodgyness that is royal mail :-)0 -
68p tempts you (and ribboninthesky) to commit fraud? You only need the postman to remember delivering the parcel and you're nicked.dickiebird wrote:I am tempted to say that the parcel didnt arrive, as the seller hasn't sent it the way he stated, and it could easily have got lost in the post.
My honest advice is that you should leave it before you talk yourself into serious trouble. Can I help?0 -

I agree, if by the off chance the postman does remember delivering the item then your address will be blacklisted with Royal Mail which will affect future claims. You could very well end up in court, who knows?0 -

I Totally agree with you rdwarr, we are talking about 68p here!
Email the seller, it could be a genuine mistake, he may well have forgotton that he quoted for recorded delivery. I did this myself recently. I had quoted for standard mail, the buyer, for some reason had wanted it recorded and had added 68p to the paypal invoice and i just didn't see until after I'd been to the PO. I just refunded and all was OK, but unless you ask your seller you won't know if that is the case.
As for making suggestions about committing fraud, can I please ask users to re read the sticky post about ebay ethics and morals. Suugesting committing fraud is not somehting that has a place on this board.

If the OP lied and said he hadn't received the item he would be getting the full cost & P&P back from the seller, plus keep the item, purely for 68p? They are seriously tempted to do that? I'm speechless.
If the problem is that they paid 68p for a service that they didn't recieve then ask the seller for it back. As already said, it may be a genuine mistake. If they are angry about how much they paid for P&P then they should have taken that into consideration before bidding, and if the P&P wasn't stated then they should have e-mailed seller and agreed the amount before bidding.
As for making a bit extra out of postage....well that is the case sometimes, but everything does have to be taken into consideration. For instance, to get to our Post Office costs over £1.50 in bus fare, that in itself bumps up the cost of P&P for some sellers.
