I am tempted to say that the parcel didnt arrive, as the seller hasn't sent it the way he stated, and it could easily have got lost in the post. Also, the Post office staff ask if it the item is over the value of £30 - which it is! And usually recommend recorded/special delivery for security/insurance.
Ok, the seller is the wrong for not sending it recorded.
It's because of buyers like you, who exploit the Paypal system, why I send every item using a trackable method.
You knew the postage before hand so why gripe now?

It seems to be a recent thing, especiall with the electronics sellers to charge very low start prices and very high postage. I just bought a 4gb SD memory card and was very aware from the start that the 'postage' (£28)was going to be more than the item.

HOWEVER I did get the card for £55, which is still way cheaper than anywhere else.

There is the old saying..Caveat emptor, which is Latin for "let the buyer beware", and I think that that about sums up eBay!

I bought a phone recently and paid £10 for tnt delivery, like someone else said I added the delivery cost to the cost of the item and I was happy to pay it but when it arrived it was posted by normal 1st class and only cost £2.30. I did email him and ask for the £7.70 to be refunded but I've never received any reply.

I alway take the postage into consideration when I buy something but when you pay extra to have it delivered in a certain way and they seller doesn't do this then I think you should be entitled to a refund.

I guess there are three issues here: -

    1. The seller charged the buyer for a service which they subsequently didn't use, and trousered the cash. I feel that the buyer is perfectly entitled to ask for a refund for that service and although it is only 68p I would do it as a point of principle. It may have been a genuine oversight by the seller; and if so; I imagine they would refund you.

    2. You knew the P&P amount before you bid and you accepted that amount. If the seller had delivered the item by hand would you be requesting a full refund??? I regularly e-mail sellers asking if it is possible to reduce or combine seemingly high shipping costs (offering to pay by bank transfer to offset Paypal fees) and most times I do get the costs reduced.

    3. I have no problem with P&P being more than the postal charge as packaging, shoe leather/petrol and time have to be paid for, but I do object to sellers blatently profiting from P&P charges. I will not buy from sellers who ramp their P&P costs, and especially those that do so to avoid eBay fees (and have the cheek to say so in their listing!). If they are dishonest enough to avoid fees then how will they be to deal with if theres a problem?

    Sorry for the lengthy rant

high postage costs have nothing to do with dishonesty, the buyer should know that the postage prices theyre paying are part of the item price.

if postage for an SD card for example is £5 and your total price is less than sellers who use a lower postage price then would you pay the
higher postage but lower overall price
    or
the lower postage but higher overall price?

some people i know say they bought headphones for £2 on ebay, then they say postage was £6, but they think they got a bargain by paying £2 for the item even though they actually pay £8 in total.

there is nothing wrong with charging different prices for postage!!! its all included in the total.

    dickiebird,

You asked for this..............." I would like some honest feedback here "..and you got it.

While you're being "honest" can I suggest you re-think your idea of considering committing fraud over 68pence.
Did you e-mail the seller and ask the question...and give them the chance of the 68 p refund???

I'm sure they'll be reasonable about it....

Thanks for everyone's 'honest' feedback. I am soooo glad I posted this thread because it has highlighted to me that there are more important things in life to worry about!

My only gripe I suppose was that the seller didnt send it the way it was stated on the auction - the amount isnt the issue now, more the principle.

I did actually mail him a few times asking him about the postage and asked why it was so high for recorded delivery. He didnt have an answer just said what many of you said above about knowing the P&P costs before bidding. Which is fair enough. If he had mentioned that he lived in the middle of no where and he had to pay for a bus etc then I would have understood why the amount was higher than it should have been.

what IF the package had got lost, where would the buyer have stood with regards to proof and insurance when he only sent it first class? Dont worry I have TOTALLY decided that I'm not going to claim it was lost - I'm now just asking hypethetically.

Also, one last thing, do you think leaving positive feedback is best even though it was not sent correcty? If so what do you recommend I write? (I am pretty new to Ebay)

    Thanks guys

I'd just stick to the facts.. something like 'Great Item delivered via 1st class post', as a positive.

This is totally accurate and factual so they can't take issue with it, but it indicates to other people that something was not quite right as it lacks the 'enthusiasm' of most feedback.

If you have not been totally happy with the transaction then simply don't leave any feedback. Feedback is not compulsory, so withold it.
