To be fair, if we are being entirely above board here, it should be classed as 'inclusive wi-fi'. I think talktalk got into trouble with the ASA for describing their internet as 'free' when it actually isn't - that suggests no conditions attached. In talktalk and Starbuck's case there ARE conditions attached - buying their IMO overpriced 'other' products. Truly 'free' wifi would be if you could wander into Starbucks, sit at a table, order nothing and use it. Still, for people who already use Starbucks it IS a good deal.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
well when i spoke to staff at my local Starbucks they were just having their wifi gubbins installed, and she said it would go live at the end of September.
So i'm guessing the website isn't up to date (it's a pretty awful website, and has only just been made a bit more attractive)0 -
It looks like the correct process is
1. get a collector card and charge £5 in store
2. regester card online
3. spend the £5 - can be done before registering

We have a couple of those in Glasgow but try finding one in the City centre or if you are in a town you don't know. But there is always a spoons if you need free Wifi and don't know the local businesses. I recomend Big Mouth Coffee and iCafe in the west end.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I tried to log on in London yesterday and was like the comment above disappointed by the "only 4 stores" point on the website. So I paid for my usual BTOpenzone minutes and sent a complaint to Starbucks. I got the response within 24 hours (well done Starbucks) and thought it would be useful to share it here:
Dear Mr Muirhead,
Thank you for contacting Starbucks Customer Care.
Free WIFI was officially launched yesterday, and is now available in 567 Starbucks stores across the UK and Ireland. We initially had 4 test sites in the weeks leading up to the launch, which were listed on the website. Unfortunately, this website has not yet been updated - we are currently working to fix this.
If you would like to find out your closest store with free wifi, go to the BT openzone webiste, select 'find a hotspot', select 'advanced search.'
In the advanced search box enter 'Starbucks' in the venue name box, and enter your city or town. Please leave the top box blank.
I hope you will continue to enjoy our coffee for many years to come and we look forward to welcoming you back to Starbucks.
Yours sincerely

Why so many moans! Yes you can get free wifi at other cafes and via FON etc but if you would ever use this offer you would be in a Starbucks and have bought a drink so loading the card with £5 is no big deal. I have used this offer in the US Starbucks so really pleased they have brought it over here too. I used to use my T-Mobile Broadband account to get free Wifi access but when they changed to BT I had to just use my dongle instead. I prefer to use the Wifi as I can do large downloads and save the mobile allowance for when I am out and about.
I didn't realise until recently that the free additions for card holders such as an extra shot, syrups and soya milk applies to all coffees bought with the card. I thought you only got one. So if you have an extra shot, vanilla late with Soya you just pay for a standard latte. :T0 -
They tell you afterwards you ahve saved 75p or whatever as well, the only thing is using the card you sometimes forget to leave a wee tip in the box.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
