have teenagers? save lots of elec tip inside
Options
if your kids are like mine they have tv,xbox,pc,phone charges etc
all plugged in 24/7 in their bedrooms.
now when they are good and remember they turn things off.
but kids being kids how often do things get left!
but even if your kids are 100% perfect the standy by power
used by things turned off but are in standby mode is huge.
so i worked out there lifestyle need for power so i could programme a timer that would be virtually undetected by them that turned off power when they would be asleep or out only.
as i found that "electronic plug in timers" can be programmed with a lifestyle for power in mind.
the mechanical timers just don't cut it as they don't have anyway of giving different and multiple on/off times and on selective days.
i put this programme in an excel doc to make it easy to programme the times needed. this format will suit the majority of elec timers.

can someone let me know the link works?
thx

Another one who thinks that standby cost are huge when they are minimal.
:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Do you really believe that teenagers will not be able to press the override button on all of these timers and how much will they all cost.
What a silly money saving idea. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

What a silly money saving idea.
its not silly you are.
put a poll up to see if your opinion is the majority's as saving any amount of money is a plus.
especially if you have a more than 2 teenagers with own rooms0 -

The OP thinks that standby usage is HUGE but it isn't.
Educating them is better than programmed timers! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Whilst nobody is arguing that you should leave things on standby, 3kWh per day for standby is incredible and frankly not believable.
Standby consumption for modern electronic devices is tiny.
Virtually every electronic device in my house is 1 or 2 watts, with the exception of the Sky HD box which is 14 watts.
Even being generous and saying an average of 3 watts and and you save standby consumption on every appliance for 18 hours a day, that is .054kWh; with 10 such appliances you will save 0.54kWh a day.
In the real world I doubt many people will save more than 0.2kWh per day.
Whilst any saving is worthwhile, the danger as espresso points out, is that people really do completely overestimate standby consumption and concentrate their energy saving on that area and ignore far more wasteful areas.0 -

as i said READ THE POST
i bet someone could work it out to exact watt/penny.
3 tv's
3 sky boxes
3 xboxes
3 pc's
2 printers
1 router
2 surround speaker systems
2 laptops charging
stuff i've forgot no doubt
yes and some prudence elsewhere around the house0 -
