could you not talk to your brother about how you feel and maybe he could take more control of selling or indeed agree to ease off a little. That's going to be hard - or impossible due to reasons I cannot say openly. He's wanted the money from day one and so this is a big problem for me. As for getting him to take more control - I wish but that will never happen.
do you have anywere to go if you sell? Not yet, no. Have given it loads of thought and considered my options, now thanks to Mum I have some and could start afresh somewhere, but I just cannot make this very important decision nor seem to be able to to anything in parallels at the moment. Besides, any idea I do come up with is futile til I can sell and move on.
could you not buy it if you live there already or do you not really want to? I did want to but can't anyway, even owning half. I think it's best for my welfare to let it go and move on without memories. As a family we've lived here since '76.
prob' best to keep it on market and ride it out though - Yeah, that's what 50% of people tell me to do. The other 50%.........
good luck0 -
Many people would prefer the work to be done for them rather than get a discount so they then have the bother. Might be worth doing?
That's what I'm thinking. Though not so much the bother - if you could get a good property at a good price then why would that put anyone off now. Only, I think they'd rather have the work done and the costs clearly defined of any works before committing.0 -
unfortunatly i think you will need to get the work done before hand as well. if you dont want to you could get quotes from a couple of builders and aks the estate agents to advise people when they look round of the quotes and thats why the house is priced to sell etc only a thought though
have you tried sending it to auction? or is that a little too scary
Thank you to all posters0 -

Auction is new to me but I would try it if I thought my property came under that bracket. Whatsmore, I don't understand why I should put this 3 bed, large family home up for auction - it's in a highly desirable location, at a good price, nothing else within the local area unless you want to spend another 60K.
I might be attached to it as a family home but I see what else is on, where, and at what price locally. I bed flats with high service charges - then go for it but I was under the impression people wanted to invest in, clean, large family homes
I can see I might have to post the link, but I need to think about it a bit more OK!0 -
Regardless of my circumstances, Has anyone decided to pull their house off the market for a while and try again later???0

Bootski you may well think its the perfect deal but the fact is nobody has offered recently so you are forced to make a decision. If you want to get rid of it you either:
a) change Estate Agents and maximise your advertising
b) renovate to a modern standard (have a look at other advertised properties to see if parts of yours are outdated. Normally kitchen and bathroom).
c) drop the price and get rid of the burden
d) continue as you are and hope for the best.
Those are your options. You have known the property for a large portion of time so you will have become attached. Maybe its not so much of a bargain as you may have thought? maybe it is 10k under what people expect to pay but they may think they have to do 15k of work on it so its not worth the effort? I couldnt tell you what people would think so either post a link up for some opinions or ask your EA what feedback they are recieving.MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
Bootski you may well think its the perfect deal but the fact is nobody has offered recently Had an offer that fell through recently as explained above so you are forced to make a decision. I know!! If you want to get rid of it you either:
a) change Estate Agents and maximise your advertising Onto my 3rd, decided advertising locally wasn't working so took on 3rd EA in nearest largest town, thinking more traffic etc
b) renovate to a modern standard (have a look at other advertised properties to see if parts of yours are outdated. Normally kitchen and bathroom). Fairly new kitchen done by MUM and new bathroom fitted as part of renovations / redecoration carried out before I put it to market.
c) drop the price and get rid of the burden OOOhhhhh!!!???
d) continue as you are and hope for the best. HMmmmmhh!!
Those are your options. You have known the property for a large portion of time so you will have become attached. Maybe its not so much of a bargain as you may have thought? I accept that you could be right maybe it is 10k under what people expect to pay but they may think they have to do 15k of work on it so its not worth the effort? No, needs new carpets, a little fence, and maybe a POWER SHOWER if they're that fussy - apart from that move in, get your bits in place and make it your own. I couldnt tell you what people would think so either post a link up for some opinions or ask your EA what feedback they are recieving.
OK - Here's the link - to hell with it:
Just please keep it to yourselves OK!
Edited - decided to removed the link now0 -
If you are worried about posting the link, you could do it for 5 mins or so and then delete, which is a little more secure.
It may be very useful to get honest impartial feedback, but then I would say that as I'm nosey!0
