Options
Hi
I am hoping someone knows the answer to this.
I am mid swing of installing Windows back to daughters lappy (her hdd fried so new one) I have got to the point where it asks for the KEY but I cannot input it as it wont allow me to put in numbers I hit the 2 key i get " i have tried everything to get numbers in even adding a ps2 keyboard but nope nothing. (dont have a USB keyboard)

What can i do ????

I know after format before windows started to load I kept getting a message saying Filter keys on but clicked cancel to this ??? I have hit all keys and held down both shift keys but still nothing.

Any help to resolve this would be great as I am still looking at the enter Key screen.

  • FN + Insert? Fn + NumLock?
  • What happens if you hold the [Shift] key for eight seconds?

Has it gone past the point where it asks about local settings etc. at the point it asks for the key?

It seems to me it must have detected the keyboard incorrectly. Have you run it through from the start with the alternate keyboard plugged in? PS2 keyboards are not plug'n'play sfaik

Pressing both Shift keys simultaneously is supposed to turn off Filter keys, but that hasn't got anything to do with numbers!

Do you have a Numeric Lock light near the top of the keyboard, that gets turned on and off if you hold down Fn and press the Numlock key?

Yes tried that but still replicates the laptop keys.

Thinking maybe corrupt keyboard driver ?
I have compaq presario 2500 driver disk but not sure if this will allow me to find and instal as i am half way through xp instalation ?
