  • We're not here yet, but we're moving to Cardiff next month. :j We're super-excited as we've heard great things about the city and I love being on a waterfront. Oh and OH is a rugby NUT. :p

Of course, we don't know anyone in the area... :( Anyone want to be our friend? :D

Cardiff is a nice city. We only live a couple of junctions away, so visit Cardiff quite often. Was there last Friday actually visiting the food and drink festival down in the bay.

Send me a pm when you're settled in and we can meet up for a drink if you like. :)

My wife and I have lived in Cardiff all our lives and we love it. We have just been into town to visit the new Library which is magnificent. The city centre is being re-developed but all should be ready for the Autumn. Also visited the Castle today which is awsome. We also have the super Millennium Stadium and the new Cardiff City Stadium. Where are you going to live?

We don't know yet, we're trawling the likes of Gumtree and Rightmove to get an idea of the sorts of neighbourhoods and flats we can afford. We'd like to be as central as possible (i.e. not out in the sticks), but we'll probably be taking a car over with us, so there is the possibility of commuting I guess.

I initially liked the look of Barry, as you seem to get more for your money there, but it seems like an awful long way away for not THAT much price difference.

Any recommendations or insider tips? ;)

What area of Cardiff will you be working in? (assuming that you will be working!) Barry is ok, with plenty of bus and train links, and property is probably cheaper there too.

Don't have a job lined up yet (hard to do interviews when you're in another country! lol) but my spouse will be doing an Access course at Coleg Glan Hafren, which I assume is fairly central, although I'm not sure.

Is Barry really that convenient by public transit? The schedule I read (on the official Cardiff bus site) seemed to indicate they only run once every hour between Barry and central Cardiff. Also you don't have the excitement of living in the city I guess...but it does look nice, and lots of affordable water-view property.

Obviously, Cardiff would be a better bet for you to live in, good night life and the Bay area, I thought there were more bus services from Barry, there are two routes. There are two Coleg Glan Hafren sites, one very near the City Centre and one about two miles out.
