If anybody is intersted here i just spoke to my Mum and my family went to the passport office first thing this morning, asked for an emergency appointment and got one as they had a cancellation, & they didnt even need to use their lie as to why they needed an emergency appointment. They get their passport back at 12.30 and check-inn closes at 1.30 so its a close one but their going to Turkey...4*, all inclusive....lucky devils, wish i was not the oldest sometimes!

    Hope they made their flight.

My neighbours were in a similar situatation a few week back, got an appointment at the London office the day before they were due to travel but told me they had to pay £100!

At least it worked out for them. Just another point that I have not seen mentioned here is that to gain access to some countries the passport must be valid for at least 6 months. If it is near the end of its life you are better renewing

Great news, glad to hear a happy ending.
As a matter of interest the airline would get fined £2000 for letting someone travel without the correct documentation these days. That's why the whole procedure has been sharpened up. Not just as important in the EU as as been said in previous posts but for non eu its a non-runner. Unfortunately its a daily event at most airports. Its good to see the passport office doing a turn though..faith in humanity restored!
