Expired Passport - Fly Tomorrow :-(

Options
Hello,

My two younger brothers and my parents are flying to Turkey tomorrow for a 2week holiday however my Mum has just noticed that my little brother who's 6 passposrt has expired 2months ago. Of course she is obviously distraught, and cant get an emergency passport at the passport office untill Wednesday. I need to know what you all think she should do as soon as possibile...how strict are they, should they play dumb and chance it at the airport with my brothers expried passport.

Advice is needed and appreciated.

Cheers

    Nightmare!!!

Doubt you'd be able to chance it at the airport, don't think it's worth the hassle if it gets picked up.

Have you spoken to the passport office? If not, get down there now!!

Is it possible to reschedule the trip without it costing too much? Of course the other option is to leave your little brother at home ;)

    Its a nightmare yes.

I feel for my family. The national passport office guy she spoke to said he couldnt get her an appointment in glasgow till wednesday and its appointment only and you cant just turn up. My mum asked for the Glasgow number and he said no. According to my mum he didnt sound too nice on the phone. What could she do.....shes planning on chancing it, going at a busy time(its thomsons) and playing ignorant if its spotted. Or i think she should go up yo glasgow and lie that its vital and an emergency she gets the the passort trenewed/extened.

More advice and opinions ASAP be great

Don;'t even think about chancing it!! It will get spotted - why do you think check in takes so ling - they check everything!!!

Can she get to one of the other passport offices in England??

I'd try again on the phone.

My sister just lost her honeymoon in Venice as she forgot her passport - D'uh!! Mum and Dad are especially gutted as they paid for it!!

If it was the EU it might be worth the risk but I don't think there is any chance he will be allowed to fly and if he was you then risk the Turkish immigration refusing entry and I wouldn't fancy being in their holding facilities.

Where are they going in Turkey and who are they travelling with? Which passport office/s have they tried? Have you spoken to the travel company they may be able to get your brother on a later flight. If you post the details up someone will help you find a later flight for your brother. Have you spoken to your insurers they may be able to help with cost of a later flight.

I dont think you should chance it. Even if they dont notice it in the UK what if they notice it there and you cant get back?

I know its a pain but I think they only way is to reschedule the holiday for about a months time and get a new passport ASAP.

I think they are going to chance it....is their a chance? Can they retaina 6 year old...do they check child passports thoroughly on package holidays to turkey. If not then they are looking into flying out for the second week.

They can do strip searches and get the rubber gloves out if they want to...

Seriously, I would really try to presuade them out of this.
I've never been in a Turkish prison, but it really isn't something I would want to chance.

They are more likely to be full of sex starved inmates than en-suites with toilets.

Please try and persuade them not to chance it.
All security people are paranoid because of terrorist acts.

Have you called Thomson for help.

What about driving to a different passport office?

Realistically, there is no chance of them missing that at the airport. Even if it was you would get sent straight back from Turkey. If you even had an extra day I would suggest having a go at the Belfast passport office. They're not too bad. The best bet is being up front with the holiday company. That way they may get at least some of the holiday if you can get the emergency one quickly. Good luck !

Please don't chance it, it's not worth the risk.

Speak to whoever you booked the holiday with and see what they can do, and/or speak to your travel insurance people too - I hope you have that.

The passport office do same-day passports (for an extra fee), but I guess you still have to get an appointment? I'd do what you can to get to another one, Durham looks to be your easiest one to get to. You can only phone them up and try to get it sorted - this isn't the time to be distrought!! (You can do that when you sag on the beach ;) )
