That's my alternative fuels experiment over with for this year. Just been to the tax station for 20 litres of dino, with winter arriving yesterday and it getting harder to start in the morning with at least a couple of cranks of the starter motor followed by a cloud of white smoke I thought that I would knock it on the head for the rest of the year and play it safe on the real stuff. As soon as spring shows it's self I shall be down the Chinese cash and carry for some fresh ktc and do a 50/50 mix which should last me until its warmer to get back on the 100% wvo . I now have a few months to scour around for some wvo and build up my stock in the garage ready for filtering and use. Everything else is running fine and I have had no problems at all running 100% from May till October on wvo rape and or palm oil. Roll on 2011.

I've knocked the VO on the head for this year as well, but a problem may be looming, a slight oil leak that may be from the head gasket on my Pug 406, but on the previous 3/4 MOT's this has been mentioned and the oil level doesn't really change on a weekly basis. There is no smeg on the oil filler either, so I'm not too bothered.

I've had success with stopping a coolant leak with Radweld this week, but wondered if anybody has used this stuff, https://www.steelseal.co.uk for head gaskets. I don't want to spend anything on major work as mileage is approaching 150k and chances are something else could go as well!

http://www.steelseal.co.uk/ Looks like a really good product. I too have used Radweld on my old civic. £8 and it fixed the coolant leaking into heater matrix after a really frost night.
My dino has now reached the fuel pump and it is starting straight away, but I hear there is some warm weather coming this weekend so if you have any long journeys planned I'd stick some more wvo in.

Tesco doing 5l sunflower for £4 at the moment if you fancy a little bit of a mix ;)
  • With a bottle of Steelseal for the engines and a pair of tights for the gearboxes, any budding Arfur Dalys will be good to go :)

I have been buying this from Mr T at this price since the spring. We have a Tesco Extra, and these 5l containers are on sale in the World Foods section. They may not be available in the smaller stores.

I've been running my Seat Ibiza on a 60-70% mix of this all summer!

Next year try 100% in the summer- its a Volkswagen and they love veg.
  • I know it's not veg oil any more, but thats about 375 litres of bio produced.
Fuel filters been changed and I cleaned out the sender unit in the tank (you should have seen the crud in that lol).
Had starting problems again since the cold weather came in, 2 glow plugs proved faulty. We'll see if theres an improvement in the morning now they're changed.
Also put 10% petrol in to try to assist cold starting but confident the glowplugs will do it.
The CRD's been fine on 30% bio, its at 1/4 tank so gonna go 20 litres bio to 20 litres diesel so I'm getting closer to that 50/50 mix.
