  • It was more of a 'thinking out loud' post. I wasn't really expecting a big debate. ;)

I believe that 'thinking out loud' is an excellent thing to do.

You actually raise a valid point. If the pole were changed, it might ask (for example)

    1) Which bank are you with now?
    2) If you could easily change today, which bank would you choose?
    3) If you have changed banks in the past six months, which bank did you use before?

This might show some interesting trends and indicate which banks users of this forum were most dissatisfied with.

The trouble with all such poles, however, is that they can mislead. Any pole on MSE can only reflect the views of people using this forum. If most people come here because they are dissatisfied with their bank (for example) it might show (for example) that everyone with 'The Woolich' wanted to go to 'Nat West'. The danger is that someone reading that statistic might get carried away and actually either change to Nat West or not change to the Woolich (or any other) when most users of either bank who do not use this site might be entirely satisfied (or not) with either bank.

See this is also thinking aloud. It's just me getting bored with packing stuff for my big house move rambling on and should not be used as the basis for any decisions. (As if!) :p

  • And current account doesn't define the bank, for me, as I only keep around £300 in my current account anyway...

What defines "my bank" is where I have my savings, and that would be several of them :)

interesting, for me my current account is my "bank account" and my savings are where ever gives good interest (subject to the difference being worth the switch).
  • Just changed my main accounts from the Halifax (I am a former employee!) to the Co-op - I just wanted to move to an ethical bank from one which I have very little respect for. When I worked at HBOS their corporate aim was to be Number One - although as employees we never quite got to understand what that meant. The branch staff at the Halifax have always been great though - definitely no complaints there, but the Co-op are much much easier to get on the phone!!

I am amazed that so many people bank with Britain's worst banks http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/23072009/389/britain-s-worrst-banks.html
Some people are still banking with those places on the high street I use for sheltering from the rain:rotfl:

I would have thought peeps on here would have been more savvy. I suppose it is that wonderful inertia that banks thrive on.

I keep everything under the floorboards in case the tax man goes looking for it.

I put halifax. Alot of people probably are taking advantage of the £5 reward acccounts. However in order to bring to attention of those who have halifax reward savers I have posted this note here.

I am unsure whether any of you have noticed that the recent terms and conditions of the halifax reward saver has changed. The new booklet sent out recently states that in November you are only allowed to open one reward saver in sole name and one joint. Currently until this date as far as I'm aware you can have two in sole name and one in joint names. Also from December if you open a reward saver you must deposit £1K a month. Currently you don't need to and will just lose your bonus that month. Therefore if you want to take advantage of a total of 3 reward savers I suggest you try open another before November or you might be bound by new terms and conditions.

PS Don't forget to standing order the £1K between all your accounts to get your £5 bonus.
  • I'm with Intelligent Finance but I think they have now stopped taking on new current accounts and mortgages.

I've no idea what is going to happen when my mortgage tracker rate ends ......."thinking aloud" I really must find out.
