Another update on elimination communication. We are generally using so few nappies now that we do a load about every three days. I estimate that based on a conventional usage of 7 nappies per day, we were using more than that up to three months when we "broke even". Now, at 4 1/2 months I reckon we have saved just over 120 nappies. I'm now looking into training pants as it seems so wasteful to be washing a whole nappy just for one wee. If anyone is thinking about trying elimination communication, it I would definitely recommend it both for other aspects and the moneysaving/environmental point of view. You might think it would be a lot of work but it does not take up that much time and now I am saving time on washing nappies. In a way it's not much different to the time you would spend on toilet/nappies if you had a baby and a toilet training toddler. I have been very suprised at how easy it has been.
Glad to hear that it's going so well for you! Our part-time EC has hit a rough patch: whereas previously she'd happily sit on the potty for several minutes, Freya has recently started crawling off as soon as the person who's sat her on the potty lets go of her, and sometimes stiffening up so that you can't sit her there in the first place. She started doing this about 2-3 weeks ago, just after she turned 1. Sometimes she'll sit there for a minute or two but you certainly can't go off and get something from another room without her coming off and following you. It wouldn't be so bad if she didn't have a tendency to tip the potty over when she does it!
We've been doing a lot of nappy-free time lately as she's got a nasty rash at the moment, and I've lost count of the number of accidents I've had to clear up! It does mean that we're not using many nappies though... I'm sure she knows when she's about to poo (though she still does it on the carpet - we haven't caught one in the potty for at least a week now), but I think the wees do still take her by surprise.
