Just to update: I have now tried Norton Internet Security Suite 2010 and can confirm that its hardly noticeable that its running and it is easy to use and install.

However, in my IT support work I have still found users having problems with rubbish support and a lot of strange computer/networking failures related to Norton AV not uninstalling itself properly (including uninstalling 2010 version).

Example: customer's PC would not communicate with their ADSL home gateway, even after they uninstalled NortonIS 2010. They contacted Norton support on the phone who seemed to know what the problem was and told her to uninstall NortonIS 2010 (even though it could have been a virus causing it). She uninstalled and the problem continued. Called support again and they told her the problem was not to do with Norton and to contact her ADSL provider (who ofcourse told her to contact her PC manufacturer!).

Norton support failed to tell her that she needed to download and run their special uninstall tool to uninstall properly (as Alienrik posted before:beer:). I did that and everything suddenly worked perfectly! How is a normal user supposed to know this, and why do their support people leave this little piece of info. out? Why is the existence of the tool kept relatively secret (they're not the only AV company to do this - they all do and they all need an uninstall tool)?:(

I also tried the new version of AvastPro anti-virus (v.5) (free fully secure version available) and it was as equally inobtrusive and easy to use as Norton (both tested on old WinXP PCs).:j
