  • I too think it is phsycological, nothing bette than low lighting and a few flames flickering away - makes it sooo cosy!

Not sure whats more MSE though, think I read somewhere that it costs 1p an hour to run the flame lighting setting on an electric fire??
  • the OH lit candles the other night for low lighting whilst watching a film, and the room was definately warmer for it. never really thought about it before, but a nice added benefit.

I grab candles from car boots during the year to keep the living room warm in autumn - can usually pick them up for 20-50p each. Don't wanna be putting my heating on until end of Oct - trying to be really good this year, so going through loads of them. Have managed to build up quite a big stock that I use with a couple of scented IKEA ones to add a nice smell to the room.

Just takes the chill off the room at the end of the day

Watch using scented candles if you have pets - they can cause epilepsy - believe it or not - doesn't sound like they are very healthy!

I've never heard this before. I own a dog so this has worried me a bit. Does anyone else use scented candles even though they have pets?
