Candles as heating!

Put the candles on a metal tray as that heats up from the heat of the candles so giving a little bit more heat.
also put the candles in front of a mirror and that doubles the light. (but obviously not the heat!)0 -
i'm sure I read something on t'interweb about making some form of storage radiator out of a candle and terracota pots0

All you lucky people up in Scotland - at this time of year, I'm normally in Fort William and we normally have great weather. Last year we went on a Small Isles Cruise and it was glorious. On the other hand, we've also woken to a severe groundfrost in late September with snow on the mountain tops.
I was looking at this website earlier and it looked like a lovely day there:

I'm up in the border hills and it's dark and chilly and horrible0

I love the idea of having loads of candles around to warm the room up (despite being in soft South!) but worry about the risk, aren't most house fires started by candles? Also got a toddler to think of.
Beautiful view, Olliebeak0 -
A few candles here and there and lights off is good in the winter, and it does add to the warmth. I have loads of candles and need to use them up as I'm STILL trying to declutter further. So I should be warm as toast this winter, what with all my fleecy stuff as well.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

I love sitting in the living room over the winter with the candles burning, it does seem to make the place feel warmer. Mind you all the layers, blankets and hot drinks probably help more!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I worry too much about falling asleep while candles are lit to be honest or something else happening. When I first moved out I bought some bits thinking about what i'd need and picked up some matches in case of a power cut, but didn't buy any candles...duh!
I now have one, but it's only been lit once.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

I'm in Wester Ross & it was a bit miserable today, but yesterday was absolutely glorious.
If you put candles in a (empty obviously) gold fish bowl they seem brighter & warmer.
Watch using scented candles if you have pets - they can cause epilepsy - believe it or not - doesn't sound like they are very healthy!0 -
I love the effect of candle-light and the warm glow that they give off. Not sure they actually raise the temperature of the room BUT the glow definitely gives off a feel-good factor. For the same reason, I put the 'living-flame effect' on our electric fire when we have visitors - makes you feel warmer just looking at it. Love the scented oil burners as well.
Our beloved moggie had to be put down earlier this year, so we'll be more likely to use the candles around the place this winter - was always a bit dubious with him around as he was a window-ledge jumper.0
