Home Delivery Network/Empire Stores- Parcel Stolen Help!

Options
Hi, I ordered a Nokia 5800 for £229 from Empire stores (who i have ordered from before) and it was supposed to arrive on Thursday and it was a signed delivery but it didnt. When i checked the status it said delivered, so i rang Empire up on Friday and they said that as far as they know the parcel was delivered and signed for by me! They said i have to send a letter with proof of signature which would take up to 14days. I was really angry so i rang back and this time they gave me the number for the delivery service, Home Delivery Network.

I rang them and they also said it was delivered on Thursday and signed for...but it definately wasnt and none of my neighbours/my bins have it. They said the manager will talk to the drivers and will get back to me!

I think the driver most likely stole it and im worried what to do if he says he delivered it:confused: I dont want to send proof of my signature as surely they could lie and say the signatures match :S

Has anybody got any advice or experienced something similar and could tell me how it turned out?

Thanks.

    Big allegation.

What puzzles me about you is this:
You say that you are worried they will say your signature matches the thiefs. Its a million to one.
    Unlikely dont you find?
Are you SURE you didnt sign for it? becuase i am sure they wouldnt lie.
  • How could the driver possibly know what your signature was like? Send the letter, as requested, with your signature, this will prove that you didn't sign for it and then all should be resolved. Have you thought that a neighbour might have signed for it and neglected to tell you?

So Empire are going to lie about signatures
The driver stole your phone
You are the only honest person in this
The company have requested you send proof, if you don't then they can only assume that you got your phone and you're pulling a fast one.

I should put this in my signature:

Never attribute to conspiracy that which can be explained by incompetence.
  • ive asked my neighbours, and im 100% sure i didnt sign it as i would remember lol....and i dont get why im being accused of lying :S i genuinely did not receive it, ive read alot of bad reviews about HDNL so im not the only one who has had this happened to them...just want some advice please...not accusations :S
  • I had this problem with pricedrop tv, a mobile phone didnt arrive after the quoted time. I had to sign one of the signature sheets (actually two in the end as Id spoken to two different people who both sent the form). I did get a full refund in the end although it took a while, still have no idea what happened but my local delivery drivers like to leave parcels on the doorstep despite a notice telling them a safe address less than a minute up the road!

No it isn't, if they admit the real signature does not match the one they have then they are admitting they have a problem. Possibly one of their employees is a thief? At best, if he did delivery it he has delivered it to the wrong place.

Not at all, the courier will not want to admit something is wrong, all the person has to do is get a copy of the OP's signature and write back to say they look the same to him/her.

I am sure they would, but then again I'm not here to pick on innocent people just to make myself look big.
  • How could the driver possibly know what your signature was like?

He wouldn't need to, he just has to put a squiggle and claim he knocked at the door, someone answered and signed for the parcel. He can say he didn't ask who the person was, but he's certain it was the right door.
Send the letter, as requested, with your signature, this will prove that you didn't sign for it and then all should be resolved.

That wouldn't work, if it did the scammers would have been onto it years ago. Order something, get your wife to sign for it then send your signature as proof you didn't sign for it.
Have you thought that a neighbour might have signed for it and neglected to tell you?

In that case the courier should have put a card through the door telling the OP where the package was.

The fact that it was left with a neighbour should have been recorded by the driver, so when the OP rang the courier they would have been told where the package was delivered to.
  • I would ask to see the signature before you send off an example of your own. I had something (expensive) delivered by Parcelforce the other day, you can imagine my surprise when I checked online during my break at work and saw that it had been delivered and signed for by me! Thankfully when I got home it was sat on my doorstep but had it been taken by a passer by or even not delivered at all but signed for by the driver then stolen by him/her, then sending my signature would have made me look like a liar as scarily the signature was almost spot on to my actual signature

If the driver had a hand held computer for you to sign, and you had previously signed use it then he could copy your signature.

At work we have a number of large machine that are serviced regularly, and repaired when they break down. My boss is supposed to sign his computer to say the work has been done, but often he isn't there so the engineer explains to me what he has done to the machines and that he has copied the boss' signature from an earlier one. My boss knows this and doesn't mind.
