There has been much 'claimed' recovery in the property market. So why are Barclays still doing this?
and a maximum 60 per cent loan-to-value limit

Apart from the size of the deposit they are after, the actual mortgage they want is a pig in a poke.

Because if you've got limited funds to lend, why take a risk?

It's all a part of deleveraging, innit. This could go on for many years.

    Dear Mr Monkey

Re: Barclays joining the 70% club

On 19 September I logged on to the site Moneysavingexpert.com and found a story entitled 'Barclays joining the 70% club', written by your good self. As a long-term, respectful critic of your esteemed organisation I excitedly clicked on to the hyperlink you provided and prepared myself to be amazed by a story about one of our leading financial organisations predicting house price falls of 70%.

Imagine my dissapointment to find a story merely detailing mortgage interest rates, with one line about how Barclays were offering a mortgage product. There was nothing about price drops.

I cannot help thinking that my beloved 70% club is starting to use shock headlines to gain members. This would have never been done a year or two back and I feel sad that an oragnisation I've followed, respected and had an interest in since being a lad is resorting to these tactics.

I would be grateful if you and your board could consider the points raised above and reconsider your posting policy in future. I have come to expect a good, steady flow of actual, mentalist 70% drop prediction articles from your prestigious organisation. A list of mortgage rates, frankly, is just not cricket.

    Yours sincerely

Think it's Jan actually. There was two options: sit here and google image search 'small signature' or go to our study, sign the name 'Cleaver', scan it, upload it to the web and post that. I went for the former.

I was going to post something similar to Cleaver, but given the effort he went to write an actual letter in proper format with a signature and everything, I'll just thank him and leave it at that!

'Simian Macaque' is a bit much tho.

Oh ho ho, the wit, the wit. If you get any drier and sharper you're going to end up cutting yourself, with sand leaking out instead of blood.

You don't have to degenerate into a battling mushrooms style.

If you put as much effort into your offline life, you must have a very successful business.

I like the fight between you and Mewbie, to see who can be the quickest and funniest.
It's sweet, you're arm wrestling on top of the table and holding hands under it so no one can see.
