4 year old car failed MOT at Kwik Fit - advice please

Talk about making a crisis out of nothing, take it to another MOT station and get the work done. If there is overlap then fair enough but they probably will find less. Even at its worse case scenario the repairs are just simple run of the mill jobs that all cars will need.

Even IF it passes an MOT, they mean little to nothing.

Ask any tester - they'll tell you that they're not allowed to move things to check under them..so if you have rotten sills but plastic sill covers, you'll pass (they can't see).

I had my old MK3 astra pass with flying colours..the day after the entire rear axle/brake setup failed catastrophically and put the car into an uncontrollable skid that wrecked the tyres and marooned the car. £318. I also had a rover that passed and on the way home had a brakepad disintegrate locking up the DSF wheel and taking me off the road, in front of a lorry and into a grass verge.

In the words (both times) of ATS brake specialists, the brakes were "f**ked".

Apples car clinic were the worst...I took a renault there for MOT..they failed it on leaky dampers, labelling it "dangerous". I took it to renault themselves, the techs checked it over and declared the dampers sound, just dirty. Lesson learned, never went there again.

For the brakes, take it to a brake specialist. Or 2. Get opinions and quotes. 2 new discs and pad set for the MK3 came to..about £80 fitted IIRC. Suspension, ditto. I've had coilsprings break before (Astra's do).

On Monday, I took my car to Kwik Fit on the £35 internet MOT deal, and it passed no problem.

Hate going for MOTs though... you wait and wonder if they're going to pass or fail... and worry just how much it's going to cost to fix some unknown fail item.

So it is always a relief to get the green-pass MOT form.

An MOT should cost a maximum of £54

Edit - guess you had repairs/work done to the car. Why I didn't think of this before posting I have no idea.

The MOT itself was £45....i would have been more than happy just with that price!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Currently trying to find somewhere that i can auction off my kidney to the highest bidder to pay the mechanic!:rotfl::eek:
