4 year old car failed MOT at Kwik Fit - advice please
Hi
My car (Mondeo / diesel) which is 4 year old and 76k miles failed it's MOT today after I went to Kwik Fit on their £35 MOT deal? which I wish I didn't now!
I was shocked to hear it had failed as it only had a service just 6 months ago and it's only done about 6k miles since this service.
It had 4 major reasons why it failed and 4 yellow advisories
Is it just Kwik Fit trying being too over the top to help generate more income/sales?
Can I take the MOT test again at another garage to see what they come up with? Is this allowed? or will they know that Kwik Fit has failed it's MOT?
Is it worth me taking the car to my local garage or ford dealer for a MOT to see what issues they pick up when running the MOT, as it may not pick up any?, as there is very little wrong with the car?
TIA

What has it failed on ?Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

A service doesn't mean your car would pass an MOT. It is a totally different thing. What was it failing on and how much would the work cost?0

A service is basically an oil and filter change with possibly a few other checks such as fluid levels and it bears no relevance to the MOT plus a lot can change/happen within 6 months and 6k miles.
Post up the details and we can let you know what we think.Cover me in honey and fling me to the hermaphrodites!0 -
4 year old car failed MOT at Kwik Fit - advice please
Learn from your mistakes and take it to a council run MOT centre.0 -
as above ..a service is nothing to do with it being fit for a mot
76k is plenty enough miles for some parts to need replacing
having said that quickfit are well known for making up extra jobs..like tyres ,shocks and brakes ..would be probably be a good idea to try another trusted garage0 -
Always use a M O T centre that that does not do repairs.
Then you know that they are not looking for work.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Don't use Kwik Fit0

How do you find a MOT centre that does not do repais, I thought all garages would do repairs?
Would they know that it has failed an MOT already? I.E. will it show up on the system?
This is what it failed on according to quickfit along with what they will charge
or the red issues it comes to at least £400,
Offside rear coil spring incomplete £50
middle pipe exhaust has a major leak of exhaust gases £120
offside rear mechanical brake component has restricted free movement £145
Front brakes imbalanced (not sure of price as they would have to strip the car down)
they have not quoted me for the yellow items which are
Front Tyres close to legal limit
Rear break pads wearing thin
noise from engine/power steering belt loose **DANGEROUS**0 -
Oh,isnt it strange that all the bits it failed on are just the bits that kwik fit does?0
