4 year old car failed MOT at Kwik Fit - advice please

Well they all seem to be fairly serious faults which can easily be checked so it looks as if KwikFit have gone too far this time and can easily be prosecuted for fraud, have their VOSA authorisation removed instantly etc. etc. On the other hand, perhaps the car does indeed have these faults?

Would they know that it has failed an MOT already? I.E. will it show up on the system?

and you can take the car elsewhere without a problem, as far as anyone is concerned you could even have had the repairs done elsewhere in the interim.

but is it like Northern Ireland (Local authority/government run) that now its been presented to Kwik Fit and failed, you are not allowed to drive it on the road until it has a valid MOT?

No, provided there is still some time left on the old MOT. If not, then it would not be legal to drive it. If it is dangerous or unroadworthy then the driver could be liable for specific offences by taking it on the road. Given that various people have decreed that KwikFit's failure points are a pack of lies there shouldn't be any problem about driving it about and taking it somewhere else for an MOT where it is bound to pass without further ado.

I see from your previous post you are thinkink of getting a new car, if that means you are getting rid of this one ask your Ford delership how much extra they will give you if you have a Mot, it maybe more worthwhile to leave te work for them to do.

yes it was an online special price of £35 for the MOT

A 4 year old ford with 78k miles? All those faults are perfectly reasonable and could even be expected.
The only one I would query is "offside rear mechanical brake component has restricted free movement £145" Does the rear brakes pass an MOT or not. Thats the only thing that should be tested surely.

I recently had a mot at kwik fit(it was free with my insurance policy)
firstly they failed me on tyres that they had passed on a service 2 days earlier it also failed on numerous other items.
I took it to another garage to get a 2nd opinion and more than half the "fails" passed.
the garage owner even phoned KF to query some items that were in his opinion"no where near a fail" KF then requested I bring it back in for them to "recheck it"
I declined their offer and has £70 of work done on it to pass mot.
