Three Uk on a Carphone Warehouse's phone (Samsung Jet)

I went today to buy the Samsung Jet at Carphone warehouse, but they advised against buying it as, even if it could work at the beginning with the 3 SIM, the Sim would not recognize it as a Three Network phone, so would send a "feedback" to three that would block the sim on that phone (hope not the phone!)
Have anyone personal experience or any friend that is using a three sim on that phone bought at CPW?

My son is using a 3 sim in his iPhone and that certainly isn't one of their phones!

That is interesting but do not know if on a CPW's phone is different.

In some auctions on ebay the phone is described as working on all networks except Three.
Also at CPW but do not know if it is only for commercial reasons

A non 3 phone will work for calls and text messages but you cant access the online part of the 3G network through a non 3 phone as far as i am aware i have tried it before. Things may have changed with the new phones but thats how it used to be. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly who will know for sure :-)

I had some rubbish like this given to me by a 3 sales rep who could not give me a reason why. Think about it, it would be like a Vodafone SIM being blocked because the phone was not locked to Vodafone !!!! Utter madness.

I have been told that you cannot get a contract with a non 3 phone and only PAYG or perhaps SIM only but I guess that is a technicality as all 3 contracts come with a phone and they are not going to sell a phone they don't sell, if you get my drift !

I sent an email to 3 yesterday , an Indian guy from the Customer Service called me back now saying that if I use a 3 sim on a non 3G phone, the account could be blocked.

-I asked specifically"what do you mean with 3G?3 network or 3g different from 2G?
He answered 3 Huntchinson
-then I asked which would be the solution? "is to buy a 3G phone"
in addition, i asked "can you send me a text message with all the settings"?
answer: NO

-Then I added that the solution is to move to Orange as 3's locked Jet is £349 vs £199 at CWH.

It looks strange to me. Is it only because they want me to buy their phone?
Shall I risk and buy the phone?

im sure they send texts warning about using a non 3 phone and have heard people say the sim stops working but cant find anything on google, all i can find on 3sw website is
"5.3 Each SIM may only be used in Handsets which are enabled for 3 Services and are authorised by us for Connection to the 3 network. Any attempt to use the SIM in other Handsets may result in serious damage to the Handset and may prevent you from being able to use it, including the making of emergency calls. In these instances, we are not responsible for any such damage or usage problems."

Hang on, hang on. You're allowed to use 3 SIMs in any 3G phone... not just a 3 phone.

A 3G phone is one that will use a 3G service... like 3.

When you've got a 3 phone that can't find a 3 signal, it uses Orange's 2G (slower) network instead - and this costs 3 loads of money, so they don't like it happening all the time.

If you use an older 2G-only phone, it'll 100% of the time use Orange, and 100% of the time cost 3 a shedload.

So any 3G phone is fine by 3...

Ergo, CPW are talking tosh.

Thanks. What you say is true, and I really would like to buy it,but what worries me is that: in some auctions on ebay the phone is described as working on all networks except Three (I asked one seller, he said he tried all SIMs and 3's one was not working)
Also at the phone page at CPW, all networks are showed but not Three.
