In January this year I bought a Acer N35 Sat Nav, started to have problems with it, backlight kept going off, then the last straw came when driving along it just switched itself off. So on April the 7th took it back to the store where I bought it with the receipt.
Customer Service said nope can't help you, you will have to contact Acer for repair. I said no contract is with you, you deal with it, they got arsey and refused, so I got even arsier and said you contact Acer, which he did, well I did using their phone 0870 number too. 30mins later someone at Acer answered me, they went through my problem with it and said it would need to sent back to them, I then the put the Comet Customer Service guy on and and let him deal with it. Comet made the arrangements with Acer for the return and repair
Well heard nothing, so on April 30th as I had to go near the Comet store anyway, I went in to ask where my sat nav was. Couldn't find the paperwork or what happened to my Sat Nav. Said they could not ring Acer as it Bank Holiday weekend and they would not be open until Tuesday the 2nd May, they took a note of my return receipt and problem etc. Said they would ring me on Tuesday with the outcome. No call!!
Today 9th May, called Comet (0870) call centre, said they would contact the store, 5 mins later, said she was transferring me to Comet Store. No answer for ages, then someone answered said Customer Sevice were too busy and would phone me back, took my details etc. Yep you guessed, no call.
What do I do now??? What are my rights? Will I see my Sat Nav again??

try and remember dates and times you spoke to acer, they probably record their calls, which would be proof.I had terrible customer service from Halfords re a medion satnav i bought.I got the feeling they were very understaffed and chaotic.Only thing i can suggest is to go in and speak to the Manager(the real store manager, not a duty manager).Identify staff member who took goods from you.Complain about whats happened so far.0

If you paid by credit card then you may be able to do a chargeback and get your money back that way and go to another retailer and get a new one! When did you get your Sat Nav?Weight Loss - 102lb0

I'd be tempted to contact acer direct. I had a problem with a comet item once and it took 4 weeks before we got the call to say it was back. All we wanted in the first place was a straight replacement....but they refused. At the end of the 4 weeks we got a replacement anyway due to lack of parts to fix our model. Go figure.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Love to my two angels that I will never forget.0 -
I like the chargeback on credit card idea, I think you should (if possible) visit the shop, better than phoning, and hand them a letter informing them that in light of the equipment being faulty and now 'lost' you wish to be given a refund and if not forthcoming you will seek redress through your credit card company.0

yes! great idea0

Thanks all, hum, never thought of refund from Credit Card company, will look into that one.
I only bought it on the 21th January 2006, so only a few months old. Flippin disgrace. Suppose I will have to take ANOTHER trip to Comet in person, with I assume, a slanging match with the Manager.
Oh well...happy days.

I had a similar problem with apple.
My cousin bought me an ipod for my 21st three years ago, and it broke within two weeks.
At that time you had to send it back to apple in california to be fixed. After three months they still hadn't sent it back.
Then they claimed it was 'lost ' in the post..and then they didn't have the spare part, and then some other rubbish.
they had it for 9 months in total.
when i got the replacement they didn't renew the guarantee, so it only had two months left on it..and guess what...four months later it broke again!

Hit them with a small claims summons. It will cost £50 to claim under £1000. They will take notice and in all likelyhood settle before the matter gets anywhere near a court and probably pay the summons fee. The process is very simple just give your local County Court office a call- Andy0
