Tesco Steak Mince - Help asap

It goes brown very quickly...
It's only red as there are dyes in it, and due to the lighting. The natural colour is brown.
So... why is it rotten?
If we chopped off your arm, your blood would darken very quickly also.

so.... has it just gone brown and you're blowing everything out of proportion and throwing away perfectly good food or is it rotten with maggots?0 -
I would be annoyed too - it is YOUR time and YOUR travel to take the meat back to exchange - Tesco should not be allowed to get away with it. They should at least be made aware of the problem and I would suspect that they are more likely to listen to an Enviromental Health Officer than a lowly shopper - especially since this is not the first time it has happened to the poster. How many people would just throw it in the bin and not take it back at all ? They are out of pocket and Tescos profits just get bigger. They should be made aware of the problem so that they can at least look into their procedures for storing and displaying meat.0

The meat has gone all brown instead of pink. Was stored correctly in fridge as it was purchased fresh. Took 5 mintues to get it home from the store.
I take it you don't know a lot about meat...
Next time you go shopping, take a look at the fillet steak and you may notice that ALL of it is brown, so does that mean it's is all rotten?
Now if you were to say pork or lamb mince was brown, then sure, you might have an issue, but not with steak mince. If your steak mince turns green, THEN you have a problem, but this would usually take around 2 weeks, stored at above room temperature. I NEVER keep any steak products in the fridge, just store them at room temp...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Not this is definitely off and when we had this happen last time Tesco even admitted it was off.
We have had steak mince from other shops i.e Morrisons and Somerfield and this has NEVER happened with those. Only ever had a problem with Tesco Mince.0 -
Yet you keep buying it?
Brown mince is not rotten.
Tesco staff are probably just as uneducated and just agreeing to maker you happy.
Morrisons and Somerfield probably may use more dyes or air tight packaging to keep it looking red and more palatable.
If it's off and crawling off the plate...fair enough, if it's brown - nothing wrong with it.0 -

And as you are aware, the staff at Tesco's are master butchers and have a very concise knowledge of meat...NOT
They said it was off, as they didn't see the point in arguing over a couple of quid, the customer is always right etc etc.
Go and speak to a BUTCHER and ask him about brown steak and whether it is off or not and I know what he'll say...
I've just looked at the steak mince I MADE yesterday (I never actually buy mince, I get sirloin and mince it myself, can't stand the fact they put fillers etc. in it) and guess what, it's a very dark red, bordering on brown colour...
Oh and found this from one of the countries leading butchers:
Colour and Marbling
A bright red colour does not necessarily indicate the meat is either fresh or good quality, simply that it has not been given the time to fully matureIf it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

have to agree with many of the posts on here...I cooked chilli this evening...yep the mince was pink when I bought it the day before but had turned brown by this evening! I still cooked it and it was lovely (believe it, I am really particular about meat!)....beef meat does that!! as previous poster said..if it had been green in colour then I would have had an issue!0

Stuff is left in cages out back that shouldn't be all the time
I have bought toilet rolls that have smelt of damp in tescos to the extent they were unuseable, unless you wanted your bits to smell mouldy
Tescos meat is a very poor quality the fish is not much better

Erm...well...obviously not...
If the OP is right, then I should get food poisoning at least three times per week, especially when I have fillet, as it is always VERY brown (I make sure I mature it for at least a week, even though our butcher matures it for two weeks anyhows) and I have my steak "bleu" so it's basically raw.
Number of times I've been ill from this: NilIf it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
