Tesco Steak Mince - Help asap

Ok so a few days ago we bought some steak mince from Tesco's . Opened it up to make spaghetti bolognese and it has gone rotten with 2 days life still. Now if it was the first time it had happened I would not be so annoyed but this is the THIRD time this year that we have had mince that has gone bad before the use by date. I am taking it back to tesco in about half hour so need advice first. I want to report this to an agency now do I just go thru trading standards or is there another I need to report this to? I have taken photos of the meat and packaging as evidence.

Also is it best going straight to the manager about the mince as last time costumer services just wanted to exchange it?

Is there anything particular I should say to Tesco's or just make a general complaint to the manager?

Thanks in advance

Let Environmental health know before you do anytihng.

I personally think this is Tescos, I refuse to buy any meat there anymore -its always off. I think its personally spends too long in transit- or they have some handling or fridging deficiencies. Environmental health need to know, off meat isnt great. I told ours about some green chicken I bought and opened on the same DAY!

Mince is cheaper in M&S anyway! I have no problem there ;)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • In one of my many jobs I did audits at tescos stores
I never shop there !!!! even for dried goods

Stuff is left in cages out back that shouldn't be all the time
I have bought toilet rolls that have smelt of damp in tescos to the extent they were unuseable, unless you wanted your bits to smell mouldy

Tescos meat is a very poor quality the fish is not much better

All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.

Where is it written that something has to last until its 'Use by' date? Can someone point me towards the relevant legislation?

    *edit*
    Found something here: http://www.food.gov.uk/foodindustry/guidancenotes/labelregsguidance/usebydateguid

"The use by date is the date up to and including which the food may be used safely (eg cooked or processed or consumed) if it has been stored correctly." My italics.
  • is your fridge working properly?
    mortui non mordent
  • We always shop at waitrose, becauase we find that the meat there will keep to the use by date! More money yes - but at least its better quality food!!!!

  • Try your local butcher for meat. At least it wont have travelled half way round the world before you eat it!

  • Our fridge is fine and other meat we have in there is fine. I have contacted Enviromental Health but by the time I rang they had finished for the day but have been told to ring in the morning so will do that and see what they say.

what do you mean by rotten?
    How did you store it?
how long did it take you to take it home? Did you keep it refrigerated in transit?

Just take it back? Why the song and dance?

    simples
  • The meat has gone all brown instead of pink. Was stored correctly in fridge as it was purchased fresh. Took 5 mintues to get it home from the store.

The 'song and dance' as you put it is because it is not the first time this has happened, it's the THRID time and I dont think thats acceptable from such a major supermarket.
